New Ribs from Burger King

There Are Not Bad but Far from Southern Style Ribs

Jay Braun
Of the various burger joints out there I often find myself going to Burger King the least of the big three that are McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King.

My wife and I decided to go to Burger King the other day to get some double cheeseburgers and I noticed that they had ribs offered on their menu. I must admit that I was not sure what to expect from a fast food restaurant's ribs. As a southerner I know good barbecue. Some of the best is at Dreamland BBQ in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This is the standard I just most ribs by. I have written an article about how good their ribs are if you are interested.

The ribs in the promotional pictures inside Burger King had it look like they cut some ribs off a slab and gave them to you and had some sauce on them. They did not look bad, so I figured that I would give them a try. The worst case scenario is that the golden retriever would be getting ribs for dinner. I wont say they were horrible but I would not order them again. For one thing they were not actual ribs. They were more like they took a rib bone and cut it into thirds. So basically I got one rib. A major issue I also have is that they do not sauce them. I am all for extra sauce, but you need to have some sauce on during the cooking process for true bbq ribs. I don't know many people who eat ribs dry they did not taste bad. They were not real meaty and not real fatty. I think they bordered on rubbery though. I would say you are better off getting ribs at a place like applebees or something than getting these or Loyd's from the grocery store than the ones that are being offered by Burger King.

As you can imagine they are not the most nutritious thing to eat. They are not as loaded with fat as the typical order of ribs though. This is in part do to the size. A three piece order sauced will provide you with 459 calories, 28 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, and 35 grams of protein. They are pork ribs as opposed to beef ribs just so you know.

I must give credit to burger king for trying this idea out. It is pretty creative, but they need to modify some of their ribs as I have mentioned.
