New Smyrna Beach in January: The Off Season

What's it like on the Atlantic Ocean in New Smyrna Beach (near Daytona Beach) in January?

Connie Wilson
New Smyrna Beach in off-season is a sleepy seedy town of artists and retirees. Many of the artists venture forth during better weather to display their wares in the far-flung northlands, visiting all sorts of arts and crafts fairs.

I had bought some jewelry from a New Smyrna artist who recommended the restaurant "Garlic" on the main drag (good and with a lot of ambience) and we heard there was a crafts fair going on at Canal Street the last 2 days of January and ventured down to see the jewelry and pottery and paintings for ourselves. After 3 days in New Smyrna, we would move to Daytona Beach to a different (bigger) Oceanside resort, but here are some images from New Smyrna Beach in the off-season.

Daytona Beach is 20 minutes or so away, so it is possible to stay in either community and easily travel to the other.

Daytona Beach is within 20 minutes of New Smyrna Beach on the same Atlantic Avenue (south versus north)
