New Smyrna, Florida - Antique Car Show

More Than a Car Show

Jane Vee
Guys, have you ever wanted to go to a car show, but your girlfriend or wife was a little less than thrilled to go? Maybe it was a Saturday night and you wanted to go out on a date. If you are like most couples, maybe the two of you just could not agree on where to go. She wanted dinner and a movie. You could not stand the thought of a chic flick. There is a compromise, though. Dinner, window shopping, antique cars, and music could be the start of a magical evening.

New Smyrna, Florida can be found around US 1 between Daytona and Titusville, Florida. On the side street of US 1 in New Smyrna, there are quaint little stores, a pharmacy with a diner, and even the "town square" complete with a clock. Antique stores and small businesses line the square. The second Saturday of most months you can find the streets closed down and antique cars lined up and down the streets of New Smyrna. A DJ usually plays classical rock music.

If you like to dance, the street becomes the dance floor. There are always a couple people who like to dance as the walk too. Passersby become just as much a part of the entertainment as the DJ and music.

For dinner at the Little Pharmacy Ice Cream Shop, your choices are limited. They have hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and any kind of ice cream dessert you want. Even though the menu entrees are limited they are exquisite. The saying "we do one thing and we do it right" applies to the food at the Ice Cream Shop. The Ice Cream Shop is nostalgic. While eating, you will feel you went back in time. Leaving the pharmacy and walking into the street with cars of the 50's-70's does not help your perception of reality.

There is a little bit of every type of care there. Usually antiques Alfa Romero's, Porsche, and of course muscle cars that are not limited to just camaros and mustangs. There are also different types of trucks on display. Two of my favorite unique antiques were an amphibian car and a tractor. For those of you not familiar with an amphibian car, it is an automobile that can double as a boat.

If you are not interested in the car show, the antique stores have a variety of items to look at. Each store has different items, so window shopping is always fun. You can find antique glassware, dishes, phones, and there was even a carousel horse.

If you are looking for a date that has variety, search no further than New Smyrna Classic Car Show.

I've never been there, but over here, we have several monthly car shows in towns with antique shops, music, and fun... and, oh, yep, lots of cars. They really are fun.
