New Species of Bird Discovered

And Yariguies Brush-Finch is It's Name

Dan Fiorella
Explorers have announced the discovery of a bird species new to science, located on a remote mountain range in northern Colombia, in the Amazon.

The Yariguies Brush-Finch (Atlapetes latinuchus yariguierum) is a large and colorful finch with black, yellow and red plumage. The bird is named for the Yariguies indigenous people who once lived along the mountain range where the bird was found.

Finding a new species of bird is quite rare in modern times but recent explorations deep into the Amazon have uncovered a number of unknown animals, including fish, frogs, lizards and snakes.

The bird was discovered during a joint Anglo-Columbian expedition which went deep into the Columbia cloud forests involving days of 12 hour hikes high into the Andean mountain range.

Facing a press corps representing the entire world, the explorers and scientists of the Amazon expedition declared the discovery "exciting" and the bird "delicious."

Much of Colombia's Amazon and other territories is unexplored and discoveries of new species are not uncommon in Colombia due to it being a no go zone in its recent past.

I must correct you on your first sentence however; "Explorers have announced the discovery of a bird species new to science, located on a remote mountain range in northern Colombia, in the Amazon" It is impossible for the bird to have been discovered in a remote mountain range in the north of Colombia and in the Amazon as the Amazon or "Amazonas" region of Colombia is in the extreme south of the country. It could have been discovered in a remote mountain range in the north of Colombia or possibly in the north of Colombia's Amazon but there are no mountain ranges there.
