New Tips for Making Gold Quickly on World of Warcraft

New Patches Open Up New Opportunities

Ronni Dee
The economy of Azeroth in World of Warcraft runs much like the economy of the real world. Prices fluctuate, professions earn gold and nothing is free. World of Warcraft, or WoW, currency breaks down into the counterparts of copper, silver and gold. One hundred copper equals the value of one silver and one hundred silver is equivalent to the value of one gold.

Spam Running

Characters who have reached level 70 to level 80 can spam run instances such as Scholomance and Stratholme. Spam running is referred the act of running a lower level instance and resetting it to run it repeatedly multiple times.

Low-level characters often have level 80s spam run them through instances such as the Scarlet Monastery for experience. The same aspect applies when running them for gold.

Looting all items off all the instance kills can net up to 600 gold per run. This figure includes selling greens and blues (or disenchanting them and selling the enchanting materials), selling the quest items, selling the cloth and looting the currency each kill drops. Selling items on the auction house (AH) is going to net more gold in the end than selling your looted items to a vendor.

The Argent Tournament

World of Warcraft brought the Argent Tournament to Icecrown in 2009. In the beginning, you could earn around fifty gold by completing the first set of dailies that are available to you. Once you become a champion for one of the home cities more dailies will open up resulting in up to 150 gold per day. After you have become exalted champion of all your home cities you can earn 300 gold or more per day in quest rewards alone.

Some of the dailies at the Argent Tournament will require you to slay some NPCs. As with spam running instances, be sure to loot all. There are many random, epic world drops you could receive in addition to some silver, gold, cloth, greens or blues.

Argent Tournament Pets

Completing the champion side of the Argent Tournament dailies will also reward you with Champion Seals. These seals can be used to purchase various items from your home cities Argent Tournament Quartermaster.

Pets available to purchase with Champion Seals can net thousands of gold on the Auction House. At the cost of 40 to 150 Champion Seals, you could sell the pet on the Auction House or through trade chat for 100 to 5,000 gold each. The neutral Auction House in Booty Bay holds many of the opposite factions pets as well. The bottom line here is where there is demand, there needs to be supply.

Dailies

Characters are allotted twenty-five dailies at each daily reset. Most level 80 dailies will net thirteen gold as well as a few silver, but some of the available dailies will net various amounts based on your current level and reputation status.

Reputation dailies for The Sons of Hodir, Ebon Hold and The Argent Crusade can be completely quickly at level 80. These dailies can be completed even after you have reached an exalted reputation status with each of them.

The daily player versus player (PVP) quest currently nets 19 gold and 86 silver. In addition to the gold reward, upon completion of this daily you will also receive 1241 honor points and 25 bonus arena points.

Weekly Quests

As of WoW patch 3.3, there is now a weekly raid quest. Raid quests are available to level 80 characters and will net 33 gold, 20 silver, 5 Emblems of Frost and Five Emblems of Triumph.

There are also five weekly quests available at the battle of Wintergrasp. These quests will open up at level 78. These quests reward you with thirteen gold and twenty three silver in addition to 3723 honor points and ten Stone Keeper's Shards.

Random Dungeon Finder

The new random dungeon finder was released in patch 3.3 as well. This new tool is not only handy to help find a group for dungeons and heroics, but it also rewards gold with each successful dungeon you complete.

The initial RDF instance you successfully complete each day will reward you with two Emblems of Frost in addition to twenty-six gold and forty-six silver. Repeat entries into the RDF will reward you with two Emblems of Triumph as well as thirteen gold and twenty-three silver.

Auction House

For most World of Warcraft players it is common sense to sell your gathered or crafted items on the AH. However, using 'buy low, sell high' as a motto can net your character some serious gold in a short amount of time.

Keep track of your server's current economy. Know what items are selling at a high price and keep track of them. Watch the AH for items listed below the current median price and buy them out. Then, relist them at a higher price than what you just paid, but at a lower price than the cheapest one remaining on the AH.

For example: As of today, Arctic Fur on Trollbane is selling for a median average of 125 gold each piece. Scroll through the listings and find one that is selling a stack of 5, 10 or 20. Many people will list stacks at a cheaper price each to make some fast gold.

If you purchase a stack of five Arctic Fur at the price of 500 gold, you can turn around and relist them in singles for 125 gold. A turnaround of 125 gold. Now imagine the income with items that sell for much higher amounts such as Crusader Orbs.

Professions

As always match your professions together, Jewelcrafting with Mining, Leatherworking with Skinning and Herbing with Alchemy, etc. In addition, pick up the secondary skills of cooking and fishing. Meats and fish can sell for large amounts on the AH because many people do not take the time to learn these skills.

Keep track of your professions and epic crafted items. It is important to know their going prices as well as the going price for the materials to craft such items. Selling crafted items with an iLevel of 245 or higher is a main source of income for many crafters as of patch 3.3.

Selling raw materials you collect through your herbalism, mining and skinning professions are also a key source of income. Epic gems are selling at 175 gold or more uncut as of today. Heavy Borean Leather is selling for nearly 150 gold per stack after the patch as Arctic Fur can now be purchased for ten Heavy Borean Leather. Prospecting ore (gems) and milling herbs (pigment) results in much desired materials that often sell for decent amounts on the AH.

Trade Chat

Use trade chat to sell your crafted items or raw materials as well as your rare finds. The AH is a great way to earn World of Warcraft gold, but many players still prefer to watch trade chat for a better deal.

In addition, buy materials at a cheaper price through trade chat, and list the item at a higher price on the AH. Items that are generally around 500 gold a piece on the AH may sell for 450 gold or less through trade chat. At the end of a successful auction you will have made fifty gold or more for each transaction.

Enjoy

Most of all, World of Warcraft players need to enjoy the game. Many players let lack of gold frustrate them as they race to earn the amount they need. Remember that WoW is a game, not real life, leave the currency frustrations for real life not Azeroth.

Warning

Do not purchase gold from outside sources that often spam World of Warcraft trade chat. Purchasing gold in this manner is a violation of the WoW terms of use and can result in your account being hacked, or worse, a permanent WoW ban.
