New Topsy Features: Photo Search, Tweet Search, Timeline Search, Topsy Trends, and RSS Feeds

Topsy.Com Search Engine Offers New Features

Nina Rotz
Topsy.com started out as a search engine powered by tweets. The Twitter-powered search engine has taken a new life, thanks to feedback from its users. The newest features released by Topsy's developers make this search engine the best way to find Twitter-based information. User-friendly search results display photos, links, tweets and trends. It does not end there, as Topsy has fully enhanced its search capabilities and information sharing.

Search Twitter Photos With Topsy.com
Twitpic, Flickr, Imgur, Img.ly, and Yfrog links allows uploading and sharing of photos on Twitter. Topsy search engine allows users to type in keywords, such as "Associated Content," and most influential photos found will display first.

Popular photo searches on Topsy such as "Grammy Awards" or celebrity names display a photo library. The user scrolls through a timeline or filters by selecting a photo source.

Topsy's new feature includes sharing found photos. A link on the right side of the window allows the user to tweet a cool picture found through Topsy search engine.

Topsy's New Feature: RSS Feeds
RSS Feeds are becoming increasingly popular with bloggers and frequent Internet users. Subscribing to a Topsy RSS Feed allows the user to revisit the search request and see any updates. For example, I can search for "Associated Content" in photos or links. I then subscribe to a Topsy RSS Feed using those search keywords. Any new photos or Associated Content related links would update in the feed, without me having to re-search the entire Topsy database.

Topsy's RSS Feed is also useful for trending Twitter topics. A user can track retweets or the popularity of a Twitter trend.

New Topsy Feature: Tweet Search
Topsy's early search results only displayed links, or TopLinks. A tweet without a URL would not display, even if the tweet had all the keywords a Topsy user had requested. The newest feature allows tweet search and display, even if the tweets do not include URLs.

Searching for Twitter trends and hash tags further enhances Topsy's Tweet Search feature. Topsy search further narrows down a result with the use of a timeline. To use the timeline, click on "Day," 'Month," "Week," "Hour" or "All."

Timeline Search On Topsy
The timeline option is also a new feature on Topsy. Besides its availability on Tweet Search, photo and trend searches also have a timeline feature.

Newest Feature: Topsy Trends
Topsy Trends enhance the previous work done with Topsy TopLinks. Topsy Trends collects the most popular tweets, retweets and photos. Topsy users view Top 100, Top 1k, Top 5k and Top 20k results. Twitter user's popularity and influence make up Topsy's search algorithm. Often the top results include celebrities, popular blogs or social networks.

Topsy Trends and Topsy TopLinks come in a WordPress plugin. The plugin is popular with bloggers who display Twitter feeds and trending topics on their websites.

Overall, the new features of Topsy search engine make it a better and easier way to search through millions of tweets. Twitter's original search engine is not as powerful. Twitter's search engine displays only a small amount of relevant information, while Topsy can go as far back as 18 months. Twitter users, followers and anyone in need of information should look to Topsy's new features as a better Twitter search engine alternative.
