Psoriasis is an immune disease, and that often leaves those afflicted patients who have it with dry red itchy skin that sometimes bleeds. This is usually treated with lotions and creams, but there may soon be in other treatment form, as two companies have recently announced that applications have been submitted for the approval of Ustekinmab. Centorcor Inc and Janssen-Cilag international NV would announce that they have turned in the applications.
What is Ustekunmab? It is a naturally occurring protein, which regulates the immune responses within the body, and this is associated with some immune medicated inflammatory diseases such as severe plaque type psoriasis. This is a unique treatment, which has already been shown to reduce the skin cells in clinical trials. A reduced amount of the affected skins cells means less itchy scaly skin for those patients.
The companies submitted the applications based on a very thorough study of data from a variety of patients records. Information gathered comes from randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trials of nearly 2000 psoriasis patients. The researchers looked at the safety and the efficiency of the use of Ustekinmab in the treatment of this type of psoriasis.
They found a 75% reduction in psoriasis in certain areas and this medication lowered the severity of psoriasis within the control group. This is wonderful news to millions of psoriasis patients who suffer endlessly with this disease.
The companies are very encouraged by the results that they seen with this medication, and that is why they have sent the applications and also why they are committed to developing numerous safe and effective techniques to help patients with chronic diseases such as psoriasis. They will continue to do this or research and development in to the disease area because much more research is needed to find a cure.
Psoriasis is in immune medicated disease, this means that the body over produces skin cells, in some areas, and they just accumulate on the surface of the skin, which causes the red itchy patches, which may bleed.
Ustekinmab is a human monoclonal, anti-botic, which is given as a shot for the treatment of severe plaque psoriasis for patients to have moderate to severe cases.
