The new expansion of the popular Blizzard campaign most likely won't be out for many months but the game is still generating a ton of buzz.
What fans do know is that it will be the second expansion back in the trilogy of storylines of the three Starcraft 2 races and that it will include new units for multiplayer as well as in the campaign.
So, what should Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm feature in terms of new units?
Let's get a discussion going; here are my ideas for some possible additions that would make the game more fun.
Idea: Bring back lurkers-
Let's face facts: people love lurkers and they want them back in Starcraft. Starcraft 2's expansion pack is the perfect chance to bring them back. Some claim that banelings made them obselete or filled the same role but that's not true.
Even if you have to make lurkers a tier 3 unit with hydralisk and hive tech they would still be useful and worth it, or it could be tier 2.5 with a hydra den as well.
Lurkers are just too much fun to use and too big a part of the Zerg's fabric. They don't quite fit the "swarm" idea but they are too good not to put in. Blizzard needs to make sure they alter the sound effects and make them more satisfying than the ones in SC 2's campaign mode and custom maps, though.
Idea: Leviathans for Zerg-
Perhaps the Leviathan can be used as a mothership-like new unit for multi-player in Zerg as well...with a one-unit limit as a new unit idea for Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.
But make it a lynchpin of the Zerg army so that it can compete with some of the bigger groupings of high-tech units that Protoss and Terran can throw at a Zerg player late in the game.
Idea: New morph for spine/spore crawlers-
Zerg players have a hard time defending bases late, but Terran gets the Planetary Fortess upgrade and long-range units to help in this department. Of course it's good to have every race with unique strengths and weaknesses but it seems as if a new morph for either static defense would be useful.
Maybe this could play off the swarm dynamic...some sort of broodling swarm-inspired tower/static defense morph that will increase the size of the Zerg swarm and can be morphed from a crawler, or maybe even a speed upgrade for crawlers adding more mid-late game options for players with creep spread in order to at least hold off massive balls of units so Zerg can better protect expansions.
Idea: Zergling ability added-
Zerglings' adrenal glands aren't as useful now...perhaps they could gain some sort of limited cliff-jumping ability putting their wings to use in the new expansion pack via a Hive-added ability, or some other upgrade to make them more deadly late-game.
These are just three examples of changes/new units for multi-player in Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, the next edition will focus on Protoss and/or Terran, thanks for reading and leave your ideas in the comments section.
