These returns cannot be resold as 'new' because they have been opened and handled. The retail market then returns the product to the manufacturer who runs the reliability tests to verify product integrity. It is important to remember that each manufacturer has its reputation to maintain and therefore will not release a product for resale without knowing for sure it will produce just as a newly manufactured digital camera will perform.
