The Veteran's Memorial Park will be located on Harvest Street in the Black Springs Subdivision. This is just off Seba Road. Groundbreaking will be on September 1, 2009. An artist's rendering of the park will be available for viewing at Centerton Days on July 25th at City Park.
Residents can have a veteran family member or friend honored with an engraved brick paver. These are available with a minimum donation. Contact Centerton City Hall at 479-795-2750 for more information about the pavers.
Centerton is in dire need of a new park. Currently there are two within the town. City Park is located on Main Street adjacent to City Hall. It is functional but can use updating. This park is the site of the Centerton Farmer's Market. The other park does not have a name. This is the park with the lake located alongside route 102. Unfortunately, eight tenths of an acre of this park and lake will be lost when widening of route 102 begins. Road widening will impact usage of this park, although the walking trail should be unaffected.
Veteran's Memorial Park will serve the newer subdivisions off of Main Street, Seba Road, and the community in back of Harps Grocery Store. This area is in need of a park for many reasons. Property values should increase once the park is completed. This would be a huge bonus for property owners in Black Springs Subdivision. No park exists in this area. Veteran's Memorial Park will put a new park within walking distance to Centerton's most heavily populated area. This community is an area with young families and lots of children. Having a local place for the kids to get together and play is a good thing. The park will be a good compliment to the elementary school that was completed last year.
Centerton is a quiet town of 8,593 people, US Census Bureau 2008 population estimates. The Parks and Recreation Department meets at City Hall, located on Main Street, the first and third Tuesday of every month. Volunteers, residents of Centerton, and other interested parties are always welcome at the meetings.
