New Year Resolutions for the World

Out with the Owrld in with the New

I don't know if it can be called an epiphany but I may have recently had one. What if we set our New year resolution and applied to the rest of the world. What if we as a nation decided to follow our new year resolution? Could we change the world? and in changing the world would we make it easier for us to keep up with our resolution. I do have to admit that I had taken some strong allergy medicine, but here it goes.

My Resolutions:

To lose weight: I promise to eat only the amount of food I need and should eat. I will need the help from the world by making beef and poultry growers stop using growth hormones to beef up the cattle and poultry. If the labeling on food is more clear, I promise to follow it better. Also make vegatables cheaper than fast food and We might be tempted by the vegetables.

Stop wasting: America produces twice as much food as it needs. According to research by former University of Arizona anthropologist Timothy Jones, over 40 percent of the food we produce ends up in the garbage. Not only does that affect my personal economy. However I times millions of Americans have made a negative impact on the worlds resources. Add to that filling up landfills and you can see why maybe we should only buy what we know we are going to use.

Exercise More: Exercise can reduce obesity, and improve our overall health. Obesity costs the US billions of dollars in medical care, that could otherwise be avoided. Imagine if they took a portion of that cost and used towards improving parks and outdoor facilities. This is one of those New Years Resolutions where each individual has to take the initiative, but an incentive would be great.

Enjoy life more: This is a New Years resolution that is harder than expected to keep up. This is one where our leaders need to help us with. There are a few things that are basic needs in life. Such as food, shelter, education and health care, our disposable income should be able to cover these items. How can you stop and smell the flowers when you need to either to worry about or working to pay the extremely high cost of living. Reducing stress will reduce health care costs and make us a nation much happier, so more affordable education and health care should help.

Volunteer: Paying it forward can have a snow ball effect and one small act of kindness here can have a positive affect across the country. If you don't believe try it. On the pay it forward web site you can find the story of a Lady who was given a computer while she was in college, as she could not afford one. When she left college she started a non-profit that would supply a computer to students and family who could not afford it, the request is that they did the same for someone else when they could afford it. Even if only a percentage of those students did the same once they graduated a chain of paying forward has already been established.

These times we are living seem to be void of excitement and the hope of times past, but if we apply these very common New Years Resolution we can make a diference and if enough people do it we can change the direction of the world. Just a tough I hope I don't change my mind by the time this allergy medicine wears off.
