There is always something to do on New Year's Eve in New York City. Many of the fireworks displays around the city are family-friendly and easy to access. Here's an overview of some of the best New Year's Eve fireworks displays in New York City this year:

1. The 15th Annual Brooklyn Bridge Walk Into the New Year

This annual event is a fun way to see fireworks displays around New York on New Year's Eve. There are two walks across the bridge: one at 10: 15 and one at 11:15. Both walks end at 12:15 to 12:30. The walk includes a guided tour with information about points around the city. At midnight, walkers will be in good position to see fireworks from Staten Island, New Jersey, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. This is an all-ages event but children must be able to walk the mile or be carted in wagons or strollers. Meet at Popeye's at 143 Fulton Street between Nassau and Broadway. $50 for adults and $20 for children. For more information and to order tickets, go to www.nycwalks.com.

2. New Year's Eve Midnight Run

The 4-mile Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in Central Park is a fun and healthy way to ring in the New Year in New York. Runners must register on or before December 27 to participate but all are welcome to come and join the festivities and cheer the runners on. At 10 p.m., the D.J. starts up and the run itself begins at midnight from the 72nd Transverse at Bethesda Terrace, accompanied by a fireworks display.

3. New Year's Eve in New York's Times Square

If you're brave, don't mind the cold or sidling up to thousands of other people, you may wish to experience the quintessential Times Square New Year's event this year. Definitely not a place for children. Once inside the Square, you will be barricaded in and will have to stay for the duration. There will be live concerts and fireworks at this famous event which will also be broadcast live on television. Show up before 8 pm for the best spot. There are many after-parties around the Square after the ball drops. Most of these will sell out before the event so get your tickets early.

4. New Year's Eve Fireworks Cruise

Put on by Circle Line, this 18-year plus cruise includes hors d'ouevres, an open bar, disc jockey and champagne at midnight. The 3-hour cruise provides the perfect spot to watch the Staten Island fireworks display at midnight.
