CocoPem
Are you thinking of doing something different for New Year's this year? How about visiting the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and watching the peach drop at midnight? Atlanta is a great city to visit if you have not been there - but I must warn you, the ATL airport is one of the busiest airports in the country so plan accordingly if you fly.

The Peach Drop is the largest New Year celebration in the southeast part of the country and attracts more then 150,000 people each year. This year the event is 16 hours long and begins at noon on December 31, 2008 at Underground Atlanta (50 Upper Alabama Street Southwest 404-523-2311) and starts out with activities and entertainment for children. There will be live performances and music. This year the well known dancing queen Julianne Hough will be giving a special performance. Many people do not know this but she is a country artist. After all of these show stopping events, you will experience an 800 pound peach make its move as the New Year count down begins. To finish off, there is a fantastic firework display once the giant peach drops. This is a huge event and it takes many people to make it happen. Some of the sponsors and partners for this year are Tran, Party City, My ATL TV, Cooper Atlanta, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, Marta, MVO Marketing Inc, and Tupelo-Honey Production. This is a free non-ticketed event. The local bars and clubs will be open until 4am. There are eight clubs to choose from Irish Bred Pub, Banana Wind, Jamaica Jamaica, Motion Atlanta, Goldbar & Restaurant, Suugar Hill, The House and Frequency.

If you are driving to the venue, there is a parking garage between Central Street and Pryor Street or you can visit www.atlantadowntown.com/parking/index.html for more information on parking venues.

Do not forget alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the street so do not bring your own. Alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, and food can be purchased from vendors in the area.

If you attend this venue, hopefully you have a great time and Happy New Year!
