New Years Eve: Have a Blast Not a Buzz!

Donna Thacker
It appears that more and more people are turning to non alcoholic events and parties. This makes for a much healthier and safer gatherings, and they are finding out they can still have fun without the drinking. Forget about getting a buzz on this New Years Eve. Go have a blast instead!

Create a Winter Wonderland for New Years Eve

Adults and kids alike enjoy playing in the snow, even though some adults won't admit it! If your area has snow, you can create a winter wonderland for both adults and children to enjoy New Years Eve. Plan a sledding party, complete with a bonfire and plenty of hot chocolate. You can even set up a portable gazebo or large tent for added protection from the elements.

Don't forget to add lots of twinkling white or colored Christmas lights if your yard is not already decorated. If your yard is not suitable for sledding, arrange to use a hillside of a neighbor or acquaintance. Maybe even find someone with a pond that is frozen enough for ice skating. Bring along a portable CD player to add some cheerful music.

Build a large bonfire and supply your guests with hot dogs to roast and watch them have a blast. Some may good naturedly complain about the cold, but they will still have a blast playing in the snow. If you have elderly people who would enjoy watching the New Years Eve festivities, be sure to provide them with lawn chairs and plenty of warm blankets! They will love watching others frolic in the snow, and will appreciate your effort to insure their comfort.

This kind of non alcoholic New Years Eve party will allow all generations to party together in a fun, safe environment. The kids will feel like grown-ups and the elderly will feel like kids again. What a great way to start a new year!

New Years Eve Blast from the Past Scavenger Hunt

This is a great party for those who like to party hop on New Years Eve. If you know several people who are having parties, this helps allow mutual friends to make the rounds. They will have a blast going from house to house gathering items or clues. Get your friends on board. Plan various snacks and beverages for the different households.

Have the guests pick up their first clue list from, say, your house. Give them a large paper bag. You can decorate it accordingly. The first clue or hint will say, for instance: Go back to the 60's at Joe Smith's house! Gather a relic and put it in your time machine bag! Joe Smith's theme would of course be the 1960's.

Have the "Smith's" distribute small items around the room that represents the 1960's. It may be pictures, or even certain foods or sodas that were popular in the 60's. You can even have them set out hot wheels of cars from the 1960's. They could even serve root beer and French fries to go with their theme. Get everyone to use their imagination. Kids will even enjoy going on this mystery scavenger hunt!

Everyone can then meet at a designated house and display their scavenger hunt wears, or a list they have made up. The list would consist of, perhaps, answering their clue questions: How many people were wearing poodle skirts? Who had the buzz haircut? Or even "Did you find the Fonz anywhere?" have fun with it and get all of your friends involved.

Start the New Year right by proving to your family, friends and children that people can have non alcoholic parties and still have a blast! You'll be the buzz of the neighborhood with out getting one on!
