Thanksgiving and Christmas bring about food, family traditions and excitement but New Year's Eve brings out the best dressed and well planned parties of the year. Although parties throughout the year are fun there's nothing like the excess glam of New Year's Eve and the super-fit of your New Year's Eve party dress. If you plan to ring in 2011 with the best of them; begin perusing and shopping for your cocktail dress now. Designers and off-the-rack-retailers are offering many styles for the winter season but you'll want to take your dress up a level. Last year's mini may do for the night but take note of the hottest trends that will sizzle for any New Year's Eve party before you make a commitment to anything less than glamourous.

Short Dresses

Luckily, short dress styles are falling anywhere between the knee to just under your bum which offer good options for those who like short dresses but not confident their legs look good. Are your legs on the other spectrum and ultra long? Don't worry; if you have extremely long or shapely legs you can accentuate the shortest version of the dress. Popular short New Year's Eve cocktail dresses are coming with ruffles, ruching, bows and bat wings to create a rocking appeal to the ordinary mid-thigh dress.

Sparkle, Pizazz and Shine

If there was a ever a time for a dress to shine; it's now. There are numerous dresses available covered in beading from head to toe, sequins layered like shingles and sparkles that will set the stage on fire. But, you're not interested in a ton of sparkle? There are many dresses that also have dazzlers sporadically placed on the dress to give it plenty of glam without the I-fell-in-the-glitter-jar-look. Although designers are creating dresses with a multitude of colored sequins and beading there are dresses in monochromatic looks to tone down the style without making it a boring frock. Still not sure if the look is for you? Check out Fergie's 2009 multi-layered sequined short dress or Taylor Swift's all silver beaded strapless style dress which is a tad longer. You may be thinking you can't afford their dresses but there are plenty of similar dresses on the market to choose from.

Multi-Way Dress

For those who are shapely with nice shoulders the multi-way dress can bring out the bold in you. The dress can be worn in as a halter, strapless, v-neck, cross-back, double-strap one-shoulder, one shoulder, halter knotted-strap halter, twist-front halter, twist-around and back-braided. Though you may only intend to wear this dress for your New Year's Eve occasion it can be worn as a "new dress" each time you put it on. Besides having a new dress creation it offers a waist band that accentuates your bustline and brings in your waistline. Depending on your shape and personal style these dresses come with hemlines that flow or are fitted.
