New Year's Eve Firework Displays in Boston: First Night Celebrations

A Look at Boston's New Year's Eve First Night Celebrations

The City of Boston is about to celebrate it's 33rd annual New Year's Eve First Night celebrations and as always there will be a multitude of events to attend. As part of the celebrations, the city of Boston and it's Mayor Thomas M. Menino will be presenting 2 new year's eve firework displays at different locations. Last new years eve's fireworks were spectacular and this new year's eve in Boston promise to be as big if not bigger.

The first firework display will take place in Boston Common and will be the pinnacle of Boston's First Night Grand Procession. Presented by Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Boston 4 Productions, the 10th successive firework display at Boston Common is the best choice for family orientated groups celebrating the coming of the new year. The 12 minute firework display will begin at 7.00pm on new year's eve. In my opinion the best location to view the display will be the north end of the park by beacon hill, but anywhere around the park will be good. Due to the expected crowds it is recommended that you travel to Boston Common by public transport and there are 3 subway stations served by the green and blue line that serve the Common. If you do arrive by car there are several parking garages within 2 minutes walk. If you are coming from out of town and are looking for a hotel near the Common then you couldn't go wrong with Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers on Arlington street or Omni Parker House on School street, both of which overlook the park.

The second firework display is at midnight on new year's eve at Boston Harbor. Presented by Verizon Yellow Pages and Superpages.com this midnight firework display will be the perfect way to count down to 2009. Boston Harbor is a perfect location for a display as the fireworks themselves are fired off of barges in the harbor itself. This means that anywhere along the harbor is a great place to watch the display as there is little to no buildings to block your view. Getting to the harbor is not as easy as getting to Boston Common, but the Aquarium Station on the blue line or the World Trade Center Station/Courthouse stations on the silver line are good public transport options. If you are coming from out of town there are 2 hotels close to the harbor; the Langham on Franklin Street and the Hilton on Broad Street.

Both of Boston's new year's eve firework displays promise to be spectacular and will be well worth a visit. For more information on Boston's new year's eve fireworks, public transport, parking and hotels as well as all the other First Night celebrations visit First Night Boston
