What's going on?

New Year's Even night in Pittsburgh is always quite a spectacle. The whole program is called First Night 2010 and will play host to over 100 different performances and programs throughout the night. Starting off at 6:00 there will be an early fireworks show for children and families. If you don't want to keep your kids out of bed all night to see fireworks, this is for you! If you just really love fireworks, come for these and then stick around for the main show at 12:00 after the countdown to 2010. In between you can stay around the Cultural District for many exciting song and dance performances and even some craft activities for the kids.

Where to see the Fireworks?
There are a couple of places you might want to view the fireworks from.

If you like to see them big and hear them loud, then you will want to get there a little early and find a nice spot in Point State Park to watch from. They will shoot them off of boats in the rivers. You'll want to park downtown, but not too close because many streets will be blocked off for pedestrians only.

Station Square will also give you a great location on the river to view the fireworks from. There is parking very close, but it will get packed fast. Make sure you don't make the mistake of trying to get a spot at the last minute. You can also take the "T" train from the South Hills so that you won't have to worry about parking.

To get a view from a bit higher up, you might want to try Mount Washington. It makes for a beautiful view and best of all you won't have to strain your neck.

How to go home satisfied?
Come and celebrate the new year in Pittsburgh by enjoying the sights and sounds of local song, dance and fireworks. If you want to make a whole evening out of it, make sure you bring a coat, but you wont' be disappointed.
