Supplies
Metallic Poster Board
Scissors
Double Sided Foam Tape
Metallic Pipe Cleaners
Thumbtack
Metallic Shiny Pom-Poms
Soft elastic type of thread measuring 22 inches
2 large paper clips
Duct tape
Instructions
1. To start with you'll be cutting a semicircle from the poster board into a cone shaped hat. You'll need a 14" diameter for your semicircle. Next, roll the shape into a cone, and adjust the size to fit your child's head. Use your double-sided foam tape to seal the seam of the hat shut.
2. The next step is to poke some holes on each side of the hat towards the bottom with the thumbtack. From there, thread one of the ends of the elastic through one of the holes and then the other. Be sure to knot the two ends well so it's secure.
3. For a hat that's head band style, just cut out a strip of poster board that's 3-7 inches wide as well as 26 inches long, depending on the design you've created. Then, use the scissors to cut in a decorative design along the edges of the head band. Next, fit the headband around the child's head and size it correctly. You can use scotch tape to secure the ends, or 2 large paper clips if you'd like.
4. For decorating purposes, use the metallic pipe cleaners for a festive look by coiling them around a pen or pencil and hot gluing some of the pom-poms to them. To secure these pieces to the hat, first poke a hole into the hat with your thumbtack then feed approximately an inch of the pipe cleaner through the hole and secure with the duct tape.
For a bit of variation and color contrast, you can purchase some gold metallic poster board that you can use for some of your party goers.
This should set a fun and festive tone to your New Years Eve extravaganza right from the start! Break out the hats, food and fun and your good to go until the wee hours of the morning! All that's left is to let the good times roll!
