New Years Eve with Your Mate

New years celebrations only happen once a year. There's no excuse for not making each one more memorable than the last. You have a whole year to prepare for it. The better job you do, the better the reward from your lady if you know what I mean. So let's get started.

Prepare

I can say this enough. Prepare. This means you should start making your plans during the month of August before the upcoming December 31^st. You should start implementing those plans by the black Friday before December 31^st. Planning well in advance will ensure success. If anything goes not according to plan, you'll have plenty of time to correct the situation.

Make Reservations

This should be a no brainer but you'd be surprised how many guys can't understand why they can't get a reservation for dinner at a classy restaurant at 4pm on December 31^st. This should be one of those things you do at the end of November or the beginning of December. While most guys are stressing out preparing for Christmas, you'll be able to get a great table at the best restaurant in town.

Take Her Dancing

You don't know how to dance? It's OK. Now is a good time to take some lessons. Don't be afraid to be the first one out there on the dance floor too. I'm a musician. I play guitar and sing. During my first marriage, I was in a rock cover band. We always had a gig on new years eve. I had a wireless setup for my guitar and a wireless headset microphone. In my band we had me on guitar and vocals, a bass player who sang backup, a keyboard player who sang backup and a drummer. On new years eve, I always put down my guitar, stepped out on the floor, took my wife by the hand and danced with her while I sang. Now if you're not the kind of guy who dances unless he's highly intoxicated you can really make an impression with this. If you make an effort to learn how to dance, and pull it off well, you'll blow your lady's mind on new years eve.

Make Up A List, Both Of You

Now if you bring this idea to her, she'll be amazed. Mention to your lady an idea. The idea is for you and your lady to each make up a list of ten things that you want to achieve as a couple in the upcoming year. Things like "To buy a home", "To start a family", or "To renew our vows". On new years eve, you hand your list to her to read and she hands her list to you for you to read.

Double Dating

Now for me, I like to be alone with my lady on new years eve but it's really up to you. If you and your lady have a gang or another couple that you hang out with a lot, a double date or hanging out as a group can be a lot of fun. It's something to keep in mind.

Learn the Words

The song is called Auld Lang Syne. It was a poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and was set to the tune of a traditional folk song. Seriously, do you actually know the word to the song? It's OK, many people don't know any of the words beyond the first few lines. Go ahead and Google it, copy and paste the lyrics and learn the words to the song.

Cook For Her

There's nothing wrong with cuddling up on the couch and watching the ball drop with your lady. It's romantic and cheap. Instead of ordering pizza this year though, pick up a bag or two of groceries and cook dinner for you and your lady. Make something good like Lasagne or Lemon Pepper Chicken. Go all out and bake a pie from scratch. Can't cook? If you can read and comprehend directions, you can cook. Go out and buy a cook book or download some recopies and make the two of you a slamming meal.

Jewelry

New years eve is a celebration of a new beginning and an exciting future. Why not save up a bit of money and buy your lady a nice ring, necklace, and/or earrings to present to her on new years eve. She'll remember it forever.

Plan A Getaway

Make reservations well in advance. Book a romantic getaway for you and your lady to ring in the new year. Save your money and get a nice romantic suite with a fireplace if you can manage it. If not, that's OK, the time away will do you both some good.

Take A Walk With Her

After the ball has dropped and noise stops, take a walk with your lady in the brisk night air. Talk about your hopes and plans for the new year and let her know that you are grateful for the chance to spend the new year with her.
