First Raleigh Night, a special community event was created in 1990 as a joyful, family-oriented, alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration of the arts. Admission buttons, worn proudly by participants, make it the most accessible, inexpensive, and safest way to celebrate the New Year. This event has grown into the largest New Year's Eve event held in Eastern North Carolina.

Being that this is Artsplosure's 18th annual New Year's Eve celebration of art and community in downtown Raleigh, First Night Raleigh 2009's celebration will start with the Children's Celebration beginning at 2:00 p.m., at the NC Museums of History and Natural Sciences and outside on Bicentennial Plaza, followed by the People's Procession and Early Countdown at 7:00 p.m.

Evening entertainment features music, comedy, dance, and theatre. Performers include the Smithereens; John Brown and the Groove Shop Band; Claire Lynch; Christine Lavin; Mark Nizer; Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater; Transactors Improv Company; Lenny Marcus Trio; Southern String Band; Elm Collective; Paco Band; and more! Admission buttons are currently on sale at Raleigh area Harris Teeter and Rite Aid stores. Buttons cost $9.00 for adults and children 6 to 12 years old. Broad Street Cafe is an all-ages, full service restaurant and entertainment venue. They offer wood-fired pizza; wraps; salads; and hot and cold fare with a creative twist. Furthermore, they provide healthy products, fresh ingredients, and large portions at a fair price. They have 15 beers on tap, with more than 30 bottled beers; mixed beverages (liquor); and high quality coffees and teas. On New Year's Eve, Broad Street Cafe will feature John Ferguson, John Dee Holeman, Boo Hanks, Cap'n Luke, Macavine Hayes, and The Rip It Ups! You also get heavy hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, and complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the music starts at 9:00 p.m. Tickets cost $20.

This party is hosted by one of Raleigh's most popular radio stations, G105. DJ Mike Morse of Bob & The Showgram, Brody, Randi West, and Geller will broadcast live. Since they have only 1600 tickets available, it is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets online from December 1, 2008 to December 24, 2008, since the cost per ticket is a mere $35.00. From December 24, 2008 to December 30, 2008, the cost per ticket increases to $45.00. TIckets purchased at the door on December 31, 2008 will cost $55.00 per ticket, starting at 5:00 p.m. For more information, check out www.g105.com.

Prices include heavy hors d'oeuvres from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a champagne toast at midnight. A full cash bar is available and credit cards are accepted. The hotel room rate is $118.00 for single double and $158.00 for triple quad. And all rooms include breakfast. Be sure to ask for the G-105 event to get the discounted rates. Finally, we have the New Year's Eve Gala Package, currently being offered by Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. Built in the style of an old English country inn, the hotel is nestled on a 300-acre site and situated in the heartland of North Carolina.
