Dance Off
A party isn't a party without music and dancing. For your New Year's Eve party you can host a "dance off" competition. Each adult will pair with a child and dance until they can't dance anymore. If you have more children than adults or vice versa you can break the competition up into several rounds, making sure everyone has their turn. The adult and child pair that lasts the longest wins the game or round.
Piñata
Piñatas are fun for kid's birthday parties and can be fun for your New Year's Eve party as well. Instead of filling the piñata purely with candy fill it with festive New Years items as well. You can fill the piñata with noise makers, confetti poppers, specially wrapped candy bars like the ones here, small bottles of bubbles, New Year's buttons, and other small trinkets. The parents can help smaller children by offering guidance or extra strength by holding onto the stick with their child. After the piñata has been broken you can play a game of pick up. Have each child hold a cup, bowl, or other container to hold the trinkets and candy in. Have one adult per child pick up the candy one at a time to place in each bucket. Set a timer and see which adult can pick up the most candy and trinkets. After the game is over evenly distribute the candy and trinkets between your guests.
New Year's Kiss
After everyone screams "Happy New Year" they usually exchange kisses and hugs. But you don't have to wait until midnight to start with the "kisses". You can play a game using silver wrapped Hershey Kisses and the letters that spell out "Happy New Year". Mark the bottoms of each Hershey Kiss with one letter each from the words "Happy New Year". Mark two of the letters on only a few Hershey Kisses, such as H and R which only appear in the phrase once. Place the Hershey Kisses in a large sized bowl and have teams of parent and child pull out 10 Hershey Kisses each. Have each team put their letters together to see who can spell the words "Happy New Year". If none of the teams can spell out these words, place the kisses back in the bowl and start again. You don't have to use Hershey Kisses to play this game though. If you have a lot of guests you can play this game inexpensively by using small folded square pieces of paper instead.
Guess How Many
Set up a jar filled with candy and place it where everyone can see it. Have each guest try and guess how many pieces of candy are in the jar. Write down each guests name on a piece of paper and let them write the amount next to their name. Whoever guesses closest to the amount in the jar wins the jar full of candy. Clearance priced holiday candies would be the perfect filler for your jar. You can have just one jar or have two jars, one for adults and one for the children.
Adults Only
If the children have grown tired or you want to engage in an adult only game, then this idea would work for you. You can play a trivia game using trivia from New Years past. Write down a question along with the answer on one side of an index card. Whoever answers the most questions first and correctly wins.
Hosting a New Year's Eve party in your home can be a fun way to spend the night with family and friends. By setting up various New Years games you can keep your guests alert while having fun.
