For starters, let kids help make or write out the invitations. They can decide if they want a more formal party or a casual party. Sometimes it is fun to have an occasion to dress up and celebrate. Also decide if you want to extend your kids New Year's Eve party into a sleepover party so parents don't have to worry about being out on the road with drunk drivers.
Here are a few games to spice up your kids' New Year's Eve party and make it a memorable event.
Guess My Resolution
Have guests write down one New Year's resolution on a slip of paper without their names. Guests take turns pulling a resolution out of a hat and guessing to see if they can match the resolution with the person who wrote it.
Board Game Tournament
Gather your board games and have a tournament. A great game for this long evening is Monopoly because it can take a long time to play. Other great games are Life, Sorry, checkers and Scrabble. People can take turns playing the winners until a final winner is decided for each game.
Charades
Write down some events or people of the past year and play charades with them. You can play with teams where actors have a certain amount of time to get their team to guess the event or person. Or for a more relaxed game, play without teams where the person who guesses gets to be the next actor.
Pictionary
Divide the party guests into teams. Using a dry erase board or chalk board, have people try and guess events or famous people from the past year while their team mate draws out clues. If one team can't guess the right answer, the other team has a chance to get the point by guessing correctly. Teams take turns and play until one reaches a pre-determined score.
Guess the Month
Describe events from the previous year while guests try and guess the month the event happened.
Word Games
Find New Year's Eve related word searches or crossword puzzles on line and print them out for guests to work on. Or see who can come up with the most new words from the phrase "Happy New Year".
By having fun games planned for guests to play, kids will be entertained and be able to stay awake until midnight. Games will also provide a way for guests to have social interaction with each other and stay organized. A kid's New Year's Eve party will be a great way for kids to start off their new year and also create many lasting memories.
