New Year's Eve Snacks for the Non-Dieter

AmyBrowne
New Years Eve snacks are perfect for that special party to kick of the year in the right way. Since most of these parties are held the night before the actual start of the new beginning, why not blow the diet and start anew the next day.

If one of your resolutions for the coming year is to loose weight, then you should have a pig out night before the New Year begins. That way it will be much easier to keep.

Salsa Dip Four Layers of Mexican Goodness

Brown up a pound of hamburger, drain it, and add a packet of mild taco seasoning. Once this part is done, add in a can of refried beans and mix it with the hamburger. Pour the meat and beam mixture into a 9 by11 glass pan and squish it out so it covers the entire pan. Now layer on top of this a jar of salsa, a pound container of sour cream, and two cups of shredded cheese. Serve it up with plenty of tortilla chips and napkins.

Paws Balls

This dish is one I made to celebrate New Years Eve at work at a nursing home in Upstate New York a few years ago. The name comes from our line of work as Professional Butt Wipers, not the male nurse named Paul who worked with us. Nevertheless, it caused quite the laugh among staff just the same.

Grab a few packages of prepared meatballs at the local grocery store, and create your own sauce. A great sauce would be salsa, either homemade or the stuff in the jar. A cheddar cheese sauce would also be a different sauce that might do over well. A mix of ketchup and grape jelly would make a sweet sour type of sauce for the meatballs and by the way, this is great to cut up hot dogs and put them in this type of sauce.

Triple Layer Cake

This cake will blow any diet and will be a hit with any crowd. Of course, the amount of guests will dictate the amount of cake you will be baking. The trick is to bake three thin layers of chocolate cake. Once cooled put one layer on a suitable platter, spread this with a thin layer of cool whip. Add another layer of cake and spread it with cherry pie filling. Now add the third layer of chocolate cake and cover the entire cake surface with cool whip. One the top of the cake places a few random whole cherries.

Grab a plain Hershey's chocolate bar and a vegetable peeler. Use the vegetable peeler to make chocolate curls and allow these to fall in random places on the cake. If you are unable to use a vegetable peeler this way, you can place a few chocolate bars in a plastic bag and use a hammer or rolling pin to crush them into small pieces and sprinkle them on top of the cake.

Yes, this cake is fattening, but New Year's Eve is a night to celebrate and forget about the diet for one night.
