New Year's Eve Triple Feature Movie Party

New Year's is a bittersweet holiday. It signifies beginning as much as it does the end- a concept by no means foreign to movie fans. Just as no film lover wants his favorite movie to end, he knows the finale is a necessity. As a devoted film buff, how can you celebrate the beginning of a new year? What I suggest to you is a New Year's Eve triple feature.

The Past

How better can you pay homage to the past than by taking in some classics of cinema? For your first film of New Year's Eve, pop in one of your favorite retro films. No need to be choosy. It doesn't have to be an AAA film like "Citizen Kane" or "It's A Gift." Any classic personal favorite will do; quality is negotiable. If you intend to have company while undertaking this triple feature, it might be wise to reach a consensus on just what to watch. You wouldn't want to alienate or irritated your audience with something like "To Sir With Love." Try to pick something timeless; a film which stands the test of time and remains as good as it originally was.

The Present

The second film on the agenda should be something modern. While 'modern' can refer to something released in the last year, some would extend the classification to the last decade. Take this opportunity to reflect on current movie trends and patterns. Revaluate some of the films you've seen lately and determine whether or not they received the credit they deserved. Perhaps an animated movie like "Megamind" or a modern take on something classic like "Sherlock Holmes" would be best. Again, make sure you negotiate with your attendees before unleashing something horrible like "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on them. Remember- you're trying to entertain your friends, not incite a bloodthirsty riot on your New Year's party.

The Future

Now it isn't possible to watch movies that haven't yet hit theaters- well, not legally anyway. Because of this reality, you have three choices. One, wait for someone to invent time travel. Two, watch an existing movie and pretend it's something that hasn't released yet. My suggestion is the third option. Kickback and enjoy some movie trailers for upcoming feature films. Chuckle at the promotional scenes of a comedy, ponder the cryptic images in a mystery, or start getting pumped for an adventure. Whatever the genres, just relax with some friends and get a sneak peek at what is to come in the future. Let the countdown begin as you peer into what's ahead for cinema.
