New Year's Eve with Umphrey's McGee

John Vann
Just as their yearly tradition dictates, Umphrey's McGee is set to take the stage once again in the city of Chicago for a three-night run that will come to an awe inspiring climax with a stellar New Year's eve performance; those who have had the pleasure of witnessing one in the past already know what I'm talking about. But for those of you who haven't yet gone, you are certainly missing out on the experience of a lifetime.

First off, expect an entire night with Umphrey's McGee. They're not going to do a quick two hour set and then get back to their hotel so they can party - that's not their style. Instead, you better be prepared to rock out for 3 entire sets of live Umphrey's McGee - and that's not even all.

In the past, Umphrey's McGee has shared their New Year's Eve shows with a number of special guests. However, normally these performers are given a complete set of their own - and this isn't going to happen this year. Instead, guests such as legendary rock and roll hall of famer Buddy Guy, Joshua Redman, Koko Taylor and more will join the group over the course of their three night run.

And there is another big change to what has become a standard New Year's Eve run for Umphrey's McGee - this one is not being held at the Aragon Ballroom. Instead, fans will end out the year 2008 with their favorite band at the Auditorium Theatre, located 50 East Congress in Chicago, Illinois. There are plenty of hotels nearby, and you know they'll be plenty of after parties going on all over the place to better bring in the New Year.

But if you plan on catching any or all three of the Umphrey's McGee New Year's Run shows, you better hurry up and buy your tickets. They've sold out in the past, and there's no doubt that they are going to sell out again for this year. You can purchase separate tickets to individual shows for prices ranging from $63.00 to $73.00, or you can pick up a pass to all three shows in the run for only $145. The band never disappoints, so you know you'll be getting your money's worth here, and they're sure to be full of surprises - so you never even know exactly who you might see come out on stage and jam with the band.
