New Year's Games and Party Ideas for Kids

Laura Shook
As December 31 approaches quickly, it's time to start thinking about games and activities for the kids. There are plenty of ideas for your kids party. They will have fun with all the ideas listed below.

1. The first thing you should do is, see if your child wants a daytime party or a night time party.

2. Everyone likes to look good for a party, so they can either have their guests dress up in their best party clothes, or just plain clothes.

3. Let them create their own invitations to send to their guests.

4. You can't forget the food you will be serving at the party. Here are a few ideas that might be just tasty to eat.

Punch Bowl Cake

1- 20 oz. can crushed pineapple
1- cherry pie filling
1- box of white cake mix
1 package instant Vanilla pudding
Whipped Cream

Bake cake and allow to cool. Prepare pudding and set. Prepare whipped cream and chill.
In large glass punch bowl put a layer of white cake (either slices or pieces). Top with a layer of cherry pie filling, a layer of crushed pineapple, layer of vanilla pudding and a layer of whipped cream.
Repeat. Layer of cake, cherry pie filling, pineapple, pudding and finish with layer of whipped cream.
Chill in refrigerator prior to serving. This is sinfully delicious.

Puppy Chow for Humans

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
8 cups of Rice Chex Cereal
1 cup powdered sugar

Melt first three ingredients over low heat. Remove from heat when completely melted Add Rice Chex and mix well. Pour 1/2 cup of powdered sugar into a large ziploc bag. Put Cereal mix in bag. Add remaining powdered sugar. Shake bag until pieces are coated. Pour on to baking sheet to cool.

You also can serve popcorn, pizza, take-out Chinese, and for drinks, you can do hot cocoa or hot apple cider.

5. The next thing your child can do, is after their guests arrive, the guests can make their own noise makers, paper party hats, and even a collage of their favorite things.

Noise Makers

Beans
Rice
Beads
Plastic Bottles

Paper Party Hats

Many party stores sell kits of plain party hats, and all you have to do is add , feathers, beads, and even streamers, or whatever you like.

6. Time for games, there is musical chairs, word games, rent some movies, pin the tail on the New Year, and make a time capsule.

Musical Chairs

Basically you have enough chairs for all, but 1 person. You place the chairs back to back. You play music, as the kids walk around the chairs. You then stop playing the music, and the person that doesn't sit in a chair is out. You continue this until there is 2 kids, and the last person standing is the loser.

Word Games

Most words out of the letters in Happy New Year, wins.

Pin the Tail on the New Year

Make your own poster and put 200_. Cut out the shape of # 7, then blind fold the kids, spin them around, and see if they can pin the #7 on the New Year.

Make a Time Capsule

Here's a great way to save the memories of the year. You can use a cardboard box, plastic container or even a big glass jar. Have all of your kids friends bring one item to put in the time capsule. It could be a , ticket stub, a photo, a book -- whatever they like that reminds them of 2006. At the end of the party seal your time capsule. You don't have to bury it in the ground, though some people do. Instead they could give to you to store for them. Be sure to title it and date the outside of the time capsule.

7. If you let them stay up late. The last thing is now waiting for the clock to strike midnight. Don't forget to let the kids have a clock in the room, so they can count down. Then they can sing, Auld Lang Syne.

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot?
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

For kids, New Year's isn't full of resolutions, or worries. They just like being able to stay up late for that night, to ring in the New Year, and having fun with their friends.
