New Years Gift Basket Ideas

The holidays are a time for caring and giving, but just because Christmas time is over doesn't mean the gift giving has to end. More and more people are now giving out gifts to celebrate the New Year as well. And what better way to show your appreciation for a loved one than with a handmade gift basket.

Baskets are traditionally given out as gifts for Christmas and Easter. However, gift baskets have become a very popular form of presenting a gift or arrangement, and are now considered commonplace for nearly every occasion. One doesn't typically think of giving a gift basket to celebrate the New Year, however, so ideas may be hard to come by for some.

Nearly everyone likes to celebrate New Year's Eve and the New Year with a nice glass of wine or champagne (and maybe even the whole bottle)! But you might not know that winemakers and distributors have begun packaging some of their fine wines and champagnes in miniature bottles. These make perfect stuffers for New Years gift baskets, and are inexpensive as well. Bottles of alcohol and other types of liquor also available in miniature sized bottles, as well - just make sure whoever you are buying for is of the legal drinking age, of course.

Candy and other treats go well inside New Years gift baskets, too. Any kind of chocolate, hard candy or licorice is a great idea, but adults might want something more filling. For them, you may want to consider filling the gift basket with any number of meats, crackers and cheese you can find at your local grocery store or deli. If you are unsure of your gift recipient's exact tastes in food, buy them a gift card to your favorite restaurant or store. This way you still provide a thoughtful gift, while giving them the freedom to choose exactly what he or she wants.

You gift basket can be decorated with any number of party favors, as well. One only needs to take a quick trip down the party aisle in their local convenience store during the Holiday season to come up with any number of fun and creative ideas. Try commemorating the New Year with decorations that are dated specifically for the New Year, and customizable gifts work well, too. Things like pendants, bracelets or ornaments can all bring a smile to someone's face and help them start the New Year off right.

Many people make New Year's resolutions, too. But these are often difficult to continue, and most are given up within a month or two of the New Year. If you already know what one particular person's resolution may be, try adding things in their gift basket to help them with their resolution. If their goal is to quit smoking, for example, nicotine patches or gum makes an excellent gift. Likewise, if they aim to stop drinking, you may want to reconsider filling the gift basket with those miniature bottles of wine and alcohol. Gift baskets are a highly customizable way to tell someone you've been thinking of them - take some time to brainstorm and really put some thought and effort into your gift basket. The recipient will surely be able to tell.
