New Year's Movie Marathons

New Year's Eve is just a few days away and there are a variety of events taking place. A popular trend is to make New Year's a movie related celebration. If you have the time and money, you and your friends could take in a movie or three at your local cinema. There are two obvious flaws with this idea. First, the cost and second, sitting in a dark and quiet theater does not really allow for friendly banter among friends.

Instead, why not have an at home movie marathon and New Year's Eve party in one? If you are a member of Netflix, this makes having a movie marathon at home much easier. If not, you probably have a reasonable movie collection of your own.

Do you like comedies, drama or action flicks? Maybe you have a favorite actor or actress. Whatever your preference, having a movie marathon at home allows you to set the movie theme, set the atmosphere, and set the guest list.

If you want your party to be a dressy occasion, with martinis and finger foods, then maybe a sophisticated but exciting James Bond marathon is the way to go. If you would rather have a more casual get-together, with pizza and assorted snacks, then maybe you'd prefer the Police Academy movies. Why not get creative with your theme? Have you and your guests dress as pirates, drink "grog" and watch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

What's that you say? You don't have a variety of genres to choose from? Why not ask your guests to bring their favorite movies? You might be surprised at what they bring. You could give them some guidelines if you're tentative on their tastes. However, if you're feeling adventurous, just let them use their own judgment. They are your friends, after all, and they'll know what's good and what's not. Even if the films they bring aren't your cup of tea, an evening of friends, food and movies ensures no-one will be bored as you ring in the new year.
