Resolved: Get closer to God. Here's how.
Step 1: Set up (and stick to!) a prayer and Bible study schedule
There is nothing that God wants more than to have fellowship with us. The two most effective ways to be with God are to talk and listen to Him-also known as praying and reading the Bible. So get ambitious. Dedicate the first hour of your day to God. There's nothing like spending an hour with the Lord every morning-you'll find that instead of facing the day, you're embracing the day.
Step 2: Purchase a 1-Year Bible
Having a Bible designed to keep you on track day-by-day and moving forward through the Word is a wise resource to consider.
Step 3: Start a Prayer Journal
There is no better way to chart spiritual growth and see how God has answered your prayers than by writing them down. Here, you can keep track of your thoughts and discussions with the Holy Spirit about the reading you've done in the Word for the day. Go back into your journal once a month and see how the Lord has been working in your life.
Step 4: Memorize Verses
Take a verse from your morning Bible study and write it someplace where you can see it often throughout the day (my personal favorite is on my left wrist). Repeat the verse to yourself and in it, remember the promise that God has given to you.
Step 5: Get Involved With a Small Group
As God desires fellowship with us, so He desires us to have fellowship with each other. Having a small group of accountability buddies to dig into the Bible, share life, and pray with is a priceless outlet. This group of people will help grow your faith and become more like Christ every day.
With these five steps and the blessing of Christ's Holy Spirit, you'll be sure to spend a wonderful, godly year 2010! Good luck!

Post a CommentGreat article. Even though I am a few months late I plan to implement some of these.
I like how your mention the reaffirming of my devotion to God. The start of a new year would be a good way to committ to the 5 practical steps you have listed. I am especially enjoying reading through the Bible this year and being involved in a small study group where we support and keep each other accountable. Thanks for the information.
R.A, these are about the best resolutions that I have ever seen. Just awesome. I especially love the Prayer Journal for these can be faith builders when we look back and see how marvelously that God did not only hear our prayer, the evidences of His answer are in the journal. Nice, nice job friend. Thank you. : - )
