New Year's Resolution: Losing Weight in 2010

Maria Vergara
The most typical New Year's resolution is to lose weight. Sadly, this is my goal for 2010. I've decided the best way to accomplish weight loss, is through counting calories and watching portion size. Eating healthy is something I've already implemented in my lifestyle. However, occasionally I have broken my diet. In 2010, exercising and continuing my diet is my main focus. I've never had, nor needed a New Year's resolution until now.

I'm entering school in the spring and set up my schedule to attend school twice a week. I'm currently not working, which allows me to have a flexible schedule. During the month of December I've invested time and money to ensure my success. This month researching "weight loss" has been my priority. I've purchased countless workout dvds through ebay such as, Barry's Bootcamp, Hip Hop Abs, and Leslie Sanson. In addition to workout dvds, I've joined a gym near my home. I'm planning ahead of time, instead of waiting until January. I'm creating contingency plans, and coming up with every issue that may prevent me from exercising or dieting properly. My top 5 ways to achieve weight loss are as follows

1. I wrote down a list of reasons why I should continue the challenge. There will be times when temptation could jeopardize everything. Having a list will serve as a great motivation to continue exercising and eating healthy fashion.

2. Eating 5 meals a day can boost ones metabolism. Therefore, I created a day-by-day meal plan for the beginning two weeks of January. It's difficult to figure out what to eat every 3 hours, having an advance list will make it easier to stay on track. I'm also learning how to make other diet dishes to have variety.

3. I've created a workout schedule detailing specific toning days. The exercise plan consists of working out six days out of the week. Lower body and upper body workouts will be in opposite days. As for cardio, I will rotate between the treadmill, elliptical, and dvds. Being on a machine is incredible boring; thus, during the treadmill I will watch a movie or show to keep myself entertained.

4. I started a blog this month. People believe if you write things done it keeps you on track. A workout blog will give me a sense of accountability. Hopefully, writing publicly could assist my weight loss process.

5. Something that happens often is once the resolution is broken the person gives up. That being the case, I'm pre-starting the new years resolution. If I start early and my plans fail there is still time to change it.

By the end of 2010, I will reveal if my current weight, and if my ideal weight was possible.
