Winfrey was an extremely bright child; she learned to read before she was 3. Her (unmarried) parents split when she was very young and she was sent to live with her grandmother, on a farm where she lived in poverty and endured many hardships. Oprah received her first pair of shoes at the age of six. Oprah eventually moved to Milwaukee to be with her mother and from that moment on her life would never be the same. Oprah was rapped at the tender age of nine by various male members of her family. At 14, Winfrey broke the cycle of molestation and moved in with her very strict father in Nashville, Tennessee. Although her father was strict, he was loving and protective. Oprah's troubles continued when she began using drugs and having sex and that year Oprah gave birth to a baby boy who was born premature and died two weeks after birth. Oprah's father taught Oprah that hard work and discipline were the only to get out of poverty. Winfrey won a scholarship to Tennessee State University and, after receiving a BA in Speech and Performing Arts, she became a reporter for WTVF-TV; Nashville's first female and first black TV-news anchor.
By September of '85, Winfrey had made an unknown show titled "People are Talking" a hit - it was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and was extended to an hour in length. Oprah went on to star in and produce movies such as "The Color Purple", "The Women of Brewster's Place" and "Beloved". Winfrey received Academy and Golden Globe nominations for her role as Sofia in "The Color Purple" and also collected 34 Emmys for her day time talk show. Sure she's battled with her weight and has planned and canceled her wedding to now ex-boyfriend Stedman, but it's nothing thousands of people don't battle with everyday plus she's a millionaire! Oprah has indeed built an empire from her day time talk show to her TV Network Oxygen to her magazine O. It seems as though Oprah Winfrey has it all. Or does she?
I thought about Oprah's extraordinary life and came up with a few suggestions on what her 2007 New Years resolutions should be and here they are:
1. Purchase a NIV Holy Bible
2. Schedule time to read and study the Bible
3. Seek Kingdom Purpose
4. Seek a bible believing Church and become an active member
5. Hire a publicist for Gail
6. Hire a stylist for Gail
7. Invite Stedman on show for audience Q&A
8. Show the (positive) Hip Hop generation some love
9. Instead of dieting, maintain healthy lifestyle
10. Diversify O Magazine to include the Body of Christ
It's true O, you seemingly have everything a person could want on this earth, but there's one thing that no amount of money can ever buy and I'll let you discover for yourself what that is.

Post a CommentOprah, I just had the pleasure of reading Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. Would you consider presenting her book as a movie?
Great idea for her to buy and read The Bible.
Oprah, God loves you and can give you joy. Seek Him and obey Him and trust Him.
