New Years Resolution Suggestions for President George W. Bush

Heather Shockney
As the New Year approaches we all begin to think of the changes we want to make in our lives. We refer to these as New Years resolutions. Usually I am not to big on these resolutions and never seen much sense in people making them, but this year there is one person that needs to make some very important New Years resolutions. That person is none other then the president of the United States. Mr. George Bush himself.

My top ten New Years resolution suggestions for him to make are as follows.

1. Stop Lying, to the people of this country, our soldiers that are protecting our great land, and most of all to yourself. Maybe Mr. Bush doesn't quite grasp the definition of a lie so here it is: The dictionary describes a lie as deliberately telling something that is not true, Something meant to deceive or give the wrong impression. You know like when he stated that there were all these weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and there really wasn't. Or when Mr. Bush went on TV and said he was keeping Rumsfield in place for the next two years, only for him to resign the next week.

2.The next New Years resolution I would suggest for Mr. Bush is to learn how to admit when you are wrong. You have been so wrong in the way you handled the whole Iraq situation. Bring home our troops and let them move forward in their lives. How many more innocent people are going to die before you can admit you are fighting a losing battle?

3.Mr. Bush might I suggest for your New Years resolution that you work on improving your speaking skills. Take a speaking class at a local college, or have a private tutor come to the White House. I don't know about other people, but I for one cannot stand to listen to another speech given by you.

4.Another New Years resolution suggestion I have for Mr. George W. Bush is to learn how to stay out of other countries affairs. You are the president of The United States, not king of the world. If other countries want your help they will come to you and ask for it. There is no need for you to try and save the whole world. You just need to work on saving the country you are responsible for. That would be the United States. We have poor and homeless people in every state. We need new schools and hospitals built here in our country. We do not need you to build new buildings in Iraq that will just be destroyed when you decide to bomb them. Worry about bettering our people. Doing this for your New Years resolution is sure to raise your approval ratings.

5.For the next New Years resolution I would suggest you learn how to manage money better. Spending millions of dollars to build a fence does not seem like a good deal to me. A fence will not solve the problem with the illegal immigrants. It will make them try that much harder to enter out country, just to prove they could get over George Bush's fence. You are so worried about making Iraq a better place and spending all this money to fix them when there are thousands of people still displaced from hurricane Katrina. The men and women that are fighting to keep us safe need the right types of safety equipment. They need to know that if something happens to them while they are serving our country there will be enough resources to care for them. Everyday we hear of Veterans hospitals being shut down due to a lack in funding, but we seem to have enough funding to help rebuild the hospitals in Iraq. I don't understand how you can overlook the people that fought to protect you and your country.

6. How about brushing up on some science for a New Years resolution. Our world is in danger from global warming. There needs to be changes to prevent impacts on agriculture, more extreme weather episodes, and the spread of disease. All of which are being attributed to Global warming. Make it your New Years resolution to find out what we can do as Americans to slow Global warming.

7. Make a New Years resolution of meeting Dr Phil. He can help you to take ownership in the things you have done wrong. You can't change what you don't acknowledge. If you don't see how the war in Iraq is never going to end you clearly need a wake up call, and there is no better person to do this then Dr. Phil.

8. The next New Years resolution I want to suggest is for you to learn the meaning of the word Accountability. At some point Mr. George Bush you will have to be held accountable for all the wrongs you have done while in office. You need to make a new years resolution to accept that there was never any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that you had no business going over there. Iraq did not attack us on the terrible day in September of 2001 it was the AL-quida. We should have been in Afghanistan trying to put a stop to all the terror groups they have. Instead you took it upon yourself to do your fathers dirty work. Mr. Bush you need to be accountable when the children of the men and women whom have died in Iraq want to know why their parents had to go over there in the first place. Can you tell them that it is your fault? This is a very important new years resolution I hope you would follow through with.

9. Another New Years resolution suggestion I have for you Mr. Bush is to brush up on your listening and comprehension skills. Listen to what the people of the United States are saying when they send you letters and stop you to ask questions or state their opinions. Now you can pretend that you are listening, this is where the second part of the new years resolutions comes into play. You have to actually pay attentions and hear what they are telling you. If someone in your office is telling you there are no weapons of mass destruction to be found, then listen. Don't pretend you didn't hear that because that is not the answer you wanted.

10. My last New Years resolution for you Mr. Bush would be to consider spending more time at your ranch and less time at the White House. Consider resigning and keeping some of your dignity. When the Democrats start investigating the war crimes you and others in your office have committed, chances are they will want to begin the impeachment process. Do you really want to be involved in this? Save all of us the time and effort and just go home now.

These New Years Resolutions are just suggestions based on my opinion. I know that you will not agree Mr. Bush nor will many others that believe you are doing the right thing. Maybe everyone needs to make a New years resolution to be more open to change and willing to hear what others are saying.
