1. Make out a list of all the things you want to do during the New Year. Have everyone sit around and make a list of all the things you want to accomplish during the new year. For kids this can be getting better grades, starting a new hobby or helping others out more. For adults you can plan to kick a bad habit or start working out.
2. Plan a dinner party with your family. Have everyone pick out one or two dishes that they want to try or one or two favorites and cook them together. You can make it extra fun by dressing up the table with candles and a special centerpiece. Your kids will love the chance to dress up and pretend.
3. Have a generation themed party. Pick a fun theme like the 60's or the 80's and have everyone dress up accordingly. Put some music on from this generation and have a dance competition. Have a small, fun prize for the winner with the best costume and the winner with the best dance moves.
4. Go outside and play baseball or some other fun sport. Invest in a fun game like horseshoes and get everyone outside to have some fun.
5. If the weather is rainy or extremely cold stay indoors and have a movie night. Pick out some of the family favorites and order some pizza or make some good finger foods and kick back and relax.
6. Get out some board games and see if you can keep playing till midnight. For adults you can choose something like Scrabble and for kids you can pick games like Monopoly.
7. Plan a family New Years resolution. Discuss something that you all would like to start doing together such as volunteering at a nursing home or exercising together.
8. Have your own personal fireworks display. Go and buy a package of inexpensive fireworks and some sparklers for the older kids and set them off at midnight. As long as there is adult supervision this is a fun way to bring in the New Year for everyone.
