The first suggestions are very basic and leave a great deal of room for your own touch to complete them. Start by making sure you get five servings of fruits or vegetables per day. Consider a multivitamin in your routine as well. Get at least one hour of exercise a day, anything as long as you are up and being active. Walking is a great start, and as you progress you may become interested in other activities as well. Taking the dog for a walk, a glass of orange juice with breakfast and a V-8 later in the day can pretty much fulfill the first two suggestions. Finally, limit your time watching television, around two hours a day is a great goal to strive for. New Years resolutions don't have to be unreachable goals, they can be simple and easy to stick to.
Find out what kinds of foods are triggers for you. By that I mean there are certain foods that trigger each of us to eat more and in most cases over eat in ways that promote weight gain. Supplement those foods with healthy selections that are good for you. Just make sure you pick foods that you like to eat, or it will be difficult to implement the changes. A good example is potato chips, very high in fat and calories can easily be supplemented with pretzels, much lower in fat and calories. Fat free versions are available as well. Frozen yogurt can supplement ice cream , a choice many of us hold near to our hearts, but is one of the worst things we could choose to eat if we are watching calories. Frozen yogurts are very tasty as well. You may need to try a few to find your favorite. When making New Years resolutions make sure not to deprive yourself of anything, or it will just be a matter of time until you satisfy your desires.
Consider mild changes that you are able to accept without feeling deprived. Suppose you consumed four cans of soda per day. Each can of soda contained 200 calories. This is just an example as the actual caloric values will differ. Supplement something healthy such as tea, or juice for two of the four cans of soda each day. This will save 400 calories a day, 2800 calories a week, 145, 600 calories per year. You must expend 3500 calories more than you consume in order to lose a pound. With the proper amount of physical activity you could potentially lose a little over 40 pounds in a year simply by cutting your soda consumption in half. New Years resolutions that work are not about deprivation, but compromise that we can live with. This is just one idea with unending possibilities you can implement to find better health and weight control. Often the solutions are much more simple than we presume. Exercise should be in a form that you enjoy and not something you dread doing. Find something you enjoy that causes you to be active and make it a habit.
Calories, fat, and sodium are the three main factors I consider in my food choices. Each of us has our very own factors to consider, and no one set plan will work for all. As many have said before me it's about lifestyle changes, not a diet as such. Make changes that will impact your life in a positive manner and that you can handle on a day to day basis. Consider one day a week to splurge and have the pleasures that may not compliment your efforts so well, but still you desire. For a change, make New Years resolutions that you can stick with, and will enhance good health and weight control.
