New York City to the Beaches of Puerto Rico Has Never Been Easier

Check Out These Options for a Quick and Painless Getaway to Puerto Rico

I live in New York City, so if I want to get up and go somewhere, I have the world essentially at my fingertips with three of the largest (albeit most poorly run) airports within a few minutes of my door. JFK, La Guardia and Newark Airport have hundreds of terminals ready to go at a moment's notice.

I also own a house in Rincon, Puerto Rico and now more than ever it is easy to get from my apartment in New York to the beach in no time flat. I can throw some shorts and some tee shirts in a backpack and 4 hours later be sipping Medalla beer on my porch in Rincon.

Typically I don't want to give away my secrets, but Puerto Rico is such an amazing place that I feel like I'd be remiss if I didn't share it with everyone.

You've got a few options to get to Rincon now that there are multiple flights every day out of JFK and Newark. I like to take NJ Transit from Penn Station to the Newark airport. For $15 you can be in the terminal in 20 minutes. If you pack like I do (one small backpack for a carry-on), you can leave within an hour of your flight departure and be sitting pretty at the gate with no worries. That's also the benefit of not needing a passport to get to Puerto Rico.

If you have a little more time on your hands, you can take the A or E train to JFK for the price of your typical MTA train ride ($2.25). Then of you need to pony up for the AirTrain ($5) but it getting to JFK and Newark is still a bargain compared to what a cab will run you ($35 to $60).

If you decide to make the trek from Newark, you can take one of Continental's many direct flights right into Aguadilla. It's a little over four hours on the plane, but I time it so I can work almost a full day and then catch the 6:30PM flight and be in Rincon by 11. It's a piece of cake!

Flying from JFK take a little longer (only because of the initial train ride), but Jet Blue has a half dozen or so flights a day from JFK into Aguadilla. Now be warned, as some of the flights leave at 11PM and 3AM, so you're sleeping patterns maybe a little askew after, but you get in just in time to hit the beach!

Either way, if you want to make the journey to Puerto Rico from New York City there are options galore. Be sure to get your tickets soon and I hope to see you on the next flight!
