New York City: Date Ideas in NYC for an Artist

Lauren Romano
New York City is chock full of artists, which means that there are many opportunities for where to take your artistic date. Keep in mind that it's not always about the art itself, but about inspiration he or she can get. You may just end up being the next muse for your date.

Antique Garage

This isn't your ordinary flea market; the Antiques Garage located on West 25th Street is filled wall to wall with more items that you can look at in one visit. It's open from 9 am - 5 pm every Saturday and Sunday, which leave opportunity for a second date on Sunday if you couldn't get to everything on Saturday. It has a multitude of items from prints, photographs, paintings, jewelry and everything else you can think of that can be transformed into art. Your date will thank you.

Museum

While this may seem obvious, consider taking your date to a museum he or she may not have been to yet. Many have been to MoMA, The Cloisters or the Met, but how about going to The Frick Collection or the Museum for African Art. New York City has a plethora of museums to discover and browse through so take the opportunity to check them out.

Art Bar

Located on Eighth Avenue, Art Bar offers inexpensive food, champagne, red and white wine and various other types of alcohol. They are open daily from 4pm - 4am and there is no dress code. In the back room there are exhibits that feature work from local artists. It's an opportunity to discuss art over drinks when you want the date to last just a bit longer.

Art Supply Store

If you are an artist, you know you can walk into an art supply store, spend hours there and forget why you went in in the first place. Stopping by an art supply store, such as Pearl on Canal Street, can make for a very happy date. Even if you aren't an artist yourself, chances are you can learn something new and maybe even find something new to try in the process. Bonus points if you buy your date a present as well.

An artist can draw inspiration from almost anywhere and planning the right date can inspire your date to go out with you a second time if you so choose. Planning a date according to his or her preferences will also show that you are paying attention to interests that were previously mentioned and that you're willing to support them.
