New York City: Guided Tours

New York City the town that never sleeps or so it seems. Visiting New York City can be an overwhelming experience for some. For visitors who would rather rely on a guided tour or two to see the city there are tours to suit every taste and interest. Whether or not any particular tour is among the best depends on the person taking the tour and their fields of interest.

The typical New York City tourist views the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Time Square, and the Empire State Building as must see places on a visit to the Big Apple. But there is much more to New York City than these few iconic landmarks.

Some of the guided tours that are available in and around New York City are:

For the police and CSI enthusist there is a three hour tour with a retired police officer. The tour covers everything from water rescues to participation in rescue efforts at the World Trade Centers. Those who attend the tour will learn about the NYPD Police Plaza, the Bomb Squad, and the Mahattan South Task Force.

For those into tall buildings and architecture there is the Skyscrapers Tour which cover six of the more famous skyscrapers in New York City including the Empire State Building.

For fans of the less than typical occurances there is a tour of strange and unusual places in New York City. The tour includes meeting some unusual people, controversial events, and a trip to the Sex Museum.

For the history buffs and those people who just want to get a feel for the past there are tours of City Hall, the Women of New York, Queens, Brooklyn, Greenwich Village. See Chinatown, Irish and Jewish New York. Tour the Bronx, Harlem, Central Park, and most any other section of New York City. There is also a tour of early New York when the Dutch owned it and it was called New Amsterdam.

See New York City by night, take the Rock and Roll tour, or tour the sites seen in your favourite movie or television show.

There are even tours targeted for specific groups like cultural and literary tours for students and tour with older citieznes in mind.

The greater New York City area (the city and its surrounding burroughs) are built on a series of islands connected by numerous bridges. One of the best ways to view and learn about New York City is by boat. See the city riding in a yacht or water taxi.

For the more adventurous there are helicopter tours.
