If you like to travel, but don't have a lot of money, there is hope for you if you wish to visit New York City. You can save money by staying in cheap New York City hostels, using coupons for lunches at fine restaurants and visiting the great landmarks that are free or almost free. If you wish to visit the Big Apple anytime in the near future and you wish to save money then follow these money saving tips.

New York City Hostels

Hostels are crosses between college dormitories and hotels. When you stay in a hostel you will be staying with people from all over the world. Most hostels provide amenities such as WiFi, cheap foods, free tours and some even have libraries. Staying in a youth hostel can be a wonderful experience for people of all ages, and it can also be a nightmare if you are not prepared. Many hostels do not offer private rooms or bathrooms, and you may have to sleep in a bunk bed. If you know what to expect from a hostel they can be a source of great savings. I have stayed in these two New York City hostels and would recommend staying at either of them.

Chelsea International Hostel. The Chelsea International Hostel offers guests great amenities. The most notable money saving amenity of the Chelsea International Hostel is the hot breakfast served each morning. Sign up for one of the free walking tours provided by the Hostel. Your guide will take you to some of the most historic landmarks of New York City and you will really enjoy the history lesson. Rates for dormitory style rooms begin at just $26 dollars per night. Make sure you bring your own linens and towels, as they are not provided.

HI New York Hostel. The HI New York is one of the cleanest and most fun hostels you can stay at. Just a few steps away from bus stops and the subways, the HI New York is extremely affordable and offers all the amenities that make great Hostels. Stay in the HI New York Hostel for $36 dollars per night. Make sure and check out the cafe for some good food on the cheap. During my stay at the HI New York Hostel I had the wonderful privilege of making friends from Sweden, Germany and Australia.

New York City Restaurants

New York City offers some of the finest dining experiences in the world. These restaurants can be very pricey, but if you are savvy you can eat out cheaply. If you perform an Internet search for New York City food coupons you will pull up some great websites that constantly update the selection of coupons for the great restaurants of New York City. Check out Entertainment.com and destinationcoupons.com to find great coupons for great restaurants all around New York City. For my week's stay in New York City I was able to eat out every lunch and dinner and only spent about $125 dollars by printing out food coupons.

New York City Entertainment

New York City offers the guest traveler a world of entertainment opportunities. Take a walking tour of the city and visit sites like the Empire State Building, Ground Zero and the Staten Island Ferry. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch or dinner in Manhattan around sunset. Make sure and visit the financial district to experience the hustle and bustle of Wall Street.

If you would like to go to a Yankees game for next to nothing check out a game over on Staten Island. The Staten Island Yankees play baseball in a miniature Yankee Stadium that offers unbelievable views of the Manhattan skyline. Just make sure you keep up with the ferry schedule or you might get left.

If shopping is your thing, New York City has some great inexpensive places to go shopping. We really enjoyed walking around Little China. The shops offered us the ability to buy both small and large souvenirs for all our family members.

New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world and you need to experience the electricity of the city. Travel to the Big Apple cheap by planning a trip and visit one of the above New York City hostels, grab some great food using discount coupons, and get your walking shoes on to visit some world famous landmarks.

Even without coupons, there are cheap restaurants in NYC, and some are very good indeed, just not fancy.

When I lived abroad, we stayed at hostels all the time. It was cheaper and lends itself as a nice way to meet people. Hostels tend to be people-friendly and intimate settings. Great job! Cheers.

Not just for New York city, but travelling anywhere I tend to use hostels as a cheaper form of accomodation.
