New York City Restaurant Review: Harriet's Kitchen- Best Burger in New York?
Neighborhood: Upper West Side
New York, NY 10024
United States of America
On the corner of 84th and Amsterdam, amidst the bustling streets of Upper West Side Manhattan in New York City, is a little jewel that few people know about. While popular amongst the neighborhood residents, it remains relatively obscure to most of the City, even those living only a few blocks away. Smaller than a standard apartment living room, Harriet's Kitchen is the epitome of take out restaurants when it comes to its size, and more importantly, its food.

Often called the take out place to go to for "real food", Harriet's Kitchen offers up a diverse mix of new York Favorites and Down South cooking. On the menu, you will find some of Harriet's specialty's. Quarter or Half Chicken made anyway you like it (may I recommend getting the chicken deep south fried?), Beef Brisket. Corn bread, Buffalo Wings, delightful and juicy Pulled Pork Sandwiches, fantastic Chicken and Beef Pot Pies, and crispy chicken cutlet, just to name a few. Having tried many of the items on the menu over my lifetime, I can say that each item is cooked to near perfection, with a wide variety of side dishes to further enhance your eating experience. While these tasty meals are sure to suit your hunger, Harriet's Kitchen cooks up a few specialties that everyone should have to try once in their life.

To flat out say it, Harriet's Burgers may be the best in New York. Served on a lightly toasted bun, Harriet's burger is broiled to your liking. Lightly crusted outside, but tender and juicy inside, The kitchen's burgers are the perfect afternoon or quick dinner meal. Add melted cheese and crispy bacon to make it all the better.

Served on the side are fries made right there as you wait. Not processed skinned, Harriet's Kitchen serves up its special fries crispy, with the potato skin still on, with just the right amount of salt and pepper to add to the already rich spud flavor. Don't like fries? Harriet's Kitchen offers up a wide variety of side orders, from a creamy potato salad to a mix of greens to a disappointing, yet still acceptable Mac and Cheese dish, you are sure to find the perfect companion for your meal, no matter what it is.

As for decor, well, there is none really. The dining area is about 5 feet by 8 feet with two tables to sit at. The walls are strewn with posters advertising meals and local events. The rest of the area is filled by the kitchen, where all the magic happens. It is your typical looking NYC takeout place.

While it may not be much to look at, Harriet's Kitchen is definitely something to taste. If you live in the City or are in it for a visit, do yourself a favor and check out Harriet's Kitchen for what I consider some of the best takeout food in home style New York.
