New York Color Nail Polish Review

Laura Hickey
There are several small changes we can make to lift our spirits. Perhaps it's changing our hair color, getting a new do or painting our nails. New York Color has some good and inexpensive cosmetics that can make changing nail colors easy fun at a bargain. But it all depends on which nail polish bottle you choose.

NYC has many colors to choose from with everything from bright and flashy to elegant in red. They even have glitter nail polish to give an extra sparkle in the light. The basic polish comes in a 0.5 glass bottle with screw on cap. It claims to be long lasting. The cost is only $0.99 a bottle. Experimenting with different colors is possible due to the cost. NYC nail products go by a number such as 108 followed by a name. The brand can be found at many near by drugstores and mass merchanted stores such as: Wal*Mart,Rite Aid and CVS.

I tried two colors, a pink nail polish color and a green one for my toenails. Both went on easily and dried quickly. On both sets of nails there was two coats of polish. Sally Hansen's Advanced Hard as Nails Strengthening Topcoat was added to the fingernails for added protection. The nail polish on the toenails is still on after 5 days and hasn't chipped yet. The fingernails are a different story. Be prepared for some touch ups. Even with a Sally Hansen topcoat, the product chipped within the first day. The color looks nice and shiny but the quality isn't standing up for very long. Granted the dishes were washed hours after painting the nails but still was surprised at how quickly it started to chip off the tips of the nails. On the first day of the polish it has the appearance of being worn for many days.

I like some NYC cosmetics and the inexpensive prices make it easy to have a variety of colors but I wouldn't suggest the $0.99 bottle for fingernails. For toenails it's works alright but for longer lasting results with fingernails, Maybelline Wet Shine polish outlasted nail color durability and didn't require as much touch ups. One aspect good is the nail polish cap has never become stuck on like some other bottle caps have. I would suggest looking at other nail polish brands as this one won't hold up for very long.
