New York Eye Doctor License Suspended by State Health Commissioner

According to the New York State Health Department news release, Richard F.Daines M.D., the State Health Commissioner has suspended the license of Martin Ehrenberg,M.D. on suspicion of incompetence, gross negligence and fraud.

The Office of Professional Medical Conduct whose goal it is to protect the public through thorough investigating of discipline issues that involve physicians as well as their assistants, notified the New York State Health Commissioner Daines, and relayed that their investigation concluded that Dr. Ehrenberg who is an ophthalmologist is an immediate danger to New Yorkers who are seeking medical advice from him.

Once Health Commissioner Daines received the report on Dr. Ehrenberg, and immediate decision was made to stop Dr. Ehrenberg from practicing in New York. Charges that have been made against Dr. Ehrenberg include 32 specifications of medical misconduct involving the care as well as the treatment of six of his patients. Other charges include negligence and incompetence, gross negligence, as well as fraudulent billing.

According to the investigation done by the Office of Professional Medical Conduct, Dr. Ehrenberg performed laser eye procedures that were not medical necessary. In some of the cases it was found that Dr. Ehrenberg's office billed for these medical procedures that were not necessary. All patients that were investigated were allegedly not given the proper treatment when diagnosed with an ailment.

New York State Health officials have referred Dr. Ehrenberg's case to the office of the Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau. New York officials are also urging anyone who might be a patient of Dr.Ehrenberg's who's office was located at 116 East 84th Street, New York City and other offices at 900 Northern Boulevard, Great Neck to please contact the District Attorney's office at 212-335-9000.

Dr. Ehrenberg's license will be suspended unless modified or vacated by the New York State Commissioner of Health. A hearing has been set and scheduled for December 11, 2007.
