New York Fashion Week Review: 5 Hot Designers and Their New Spring 2010 Collections

September 2009 Fashion Week with Spring 2010 Fashion Shows

Elizabeth V. Miller
With New York Fashion Week concluding once again, it's time to review our favorite designer collections for Spring 2010. Here are my top five picks of the week. What did you think?

New York Fashion Week Hit #1: Christian Siriano

Christian Siriano scored and scored big this past Fashion Week. I already wrote an article reviewing his collection by itself so I won't go into much detail here, but his outfits and accessories were sophisticated and stunning. If I could have seen one runway show in person, I would have loved to have seen Christian's. Designing for everyday women, Siriano has become one of the fashion designers to watch.

New York Fashion Week Hit #2: Dennis Basso

Incorporating yellows, metallics, blacks, and reds, Dennis Basso debuted a fun and flirty collection during Fashion Week. Although I don't see myself necessarily wearing Basso's Spring 2010 Collection, I find myself drooling over the fun and sassy skirts. (A girl can dream, can't she?) The show, overall, was both stylish and elegant. Even if the whole collection isn't for everyone, there were certainly aspects that we all might like to incorporate into our upcoming wardrobes.

New York Fashion Week Hit #3: Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren has come to be synonymous with the comfortable side of fashion. Without sacrificing style, Ralph Lauren's Spring 2010 Collection delivers outfits you could actually live in. Sticking mostly to whites, blues, and pinks, Lauren's show debuted trendy looks for everyday wear including collared shirts, casual blazers, and so on. Overall, Ralph Lauren's collection was one of the most wearable sets of this past Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week Hit #4: Milly by Michelle Smith

Michelle Smith's Fashion Week show was filled with big glasses, chucky accessories, retro patterns, and ultra chic designs. The intimidating collection seems perfect for women who go for being notably unique and stylish without being too over-the-top. The collection is filled with pieces we everyday women could actually wear, but we might have to save the fun pieces for our extra confident days.

New York Fashion Week Hit #5: Isaac Mizrahi

It really does seem like Isaac Mizrahi designs for the fashionista in all of us. Using a variety of textures and colors--including creams, purples, and greens--Mizrahi's new collection ditches the boring, traditional suit and reintroduces style into the workplace. But, Isaac didn't neglect our desire to be alluring either. With some creative updates on old-Hollywood looks, Isaac Mizrahi's Spring 2010 offerings may hold a little something for all of us.
