The 2-2 New York Giants travel to Houston to take on the 3-1 Texans this Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm and the game can be seen on CBS.
Injuries: The Giants will be without Will Beatty, Keith Bulluck, Madison Hedgecock, Mathias Kiwanuka and Shaun O'Hara. Both Andre Johnson and Mario Williams are expected to play for Houston. The Texans also get linebacker Brian Cushing back (suspension).
The Giants will win...
because it only took four games for the team's defense to awaken. After last week's ten-sack performance, the Giants are third in total defense and New York's pass rush is again an intimidating unit. Big Blue fans may be concerned that defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka is again sidelined with a neck injury. He was last week, also.
Houston is great at stopping at run, but the Texans are the currently the worst team in the NFL at defending the pass. Pretty much every Giants wide receiver has had trouble holding onto the football at some point during the season. No better time than the present for Eli Manning and the Giants passing game to get on track.
The Giants will lose...
because we've already seen this game in 2010 (Colts-Giants), and it wasn't pretty. Houston's offense is even more high powered than Indy's, and Andre Johnson as a decoy alone will rattle a very shaky and inconsistent New York secondary. Don't forget that the Colts managed to run for 160 yards against the Giants just a couple of weeks ago. Arian Foster isn't being punished by head coach Gary Kubiak this week, and he could have a 200 yard game ahead of him.
The Giants defense has looked great in only one game, and expecting to hold Houston to under ten points is very, very wishful thinking. This simply is not a team built to win a shootout, which is exactly what we may see on Sunday.
Prediction
I continue to see the 2010 Giants as the 2006 team; a roster full of talent that is its own worst enemy due to inconsistency, silly mistakes and bickering. One great game followed by one "meh" game could be this team's story throughout the fall. I need to see more of last week's NYG defense before I truly start believing.
Houston 24
New York 16
