Hope you New York Giants fans didn't go to bed yet because there is some good news to start your weekend.

Several sources, including ESPN and the Star-Ledger, have confirmed that free agent safety Antrel Rolle has signed with the New York Giants. According to reports, Rolle will become the highest paid safety in the history of the NFL. Adam Schefter of ESPN claims that the contract will earn Rolle $37 million over five seasons. $15 million will be guaranteed to Rolle.

The Giants began negotiations with Rolle early on Friday and talks continued into the early evening. Rolle passed a team physical but Giants officials and fans began to worry when reports surfaced that Rolle would be willing to allow the Arizona Cardinals to match any offer made to him by the New York Giants or any other NFL franchise during free agency.

The Giants took care of that by making Rolle the highest paid safety to ever play in the NFL (as of Friday night, that is).

In the week leading up to the beginning of free agency, the Giants said a "spending spree" was not in the cards regardless of the fact that the 2010 NFL season will be an uncapped one. The Giants did not break the bank on Friday night but the team almost definitely overpaid for one of the better safeties in football.

Rolle appears eager to become a member of the New York Giants. Earlier on Friday, the Miami Dolphins offered Rolle a five year contract without Rolle making a trip down to Florida. It didn't matter in the end as Rolle is the newest member of Big Blue.
