New York Giants Will Face the New England Patriots for Super Bowl XLII

Review of Sunday's NFC and AFC Championship Games

The New England Patriots will face the New York Giants in this year's Super Bowl. The two teams faced off today in the NFC and AFC Championships and ultimately came out as winners. I had the pleasure of watching both of these exciting games and can offer you a first hand recap.

New England Patriots versus San Diego Chargers

The AFC Championship between the Patriots and the Chargers was held at Gillette Stadium. The Chargers were not as strong because of injuries of quarterback Philip Rivers, running back LaDainian Tomlinson, and tight end Antonio Gates. Tomlinson played for a bit but he just did not have his normal juice. However, the Chargers were able to move the ball and make field goals.

New England on the other hand was able to make touchdowns. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady completed 22 out of 33 passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions during the game. Chargers quarterback Rivers had 19 out of 37 attempts completed with 2 interceptions. The Patriots used Laurence Maroney's skills and came out winning with a final score of 21 to 12.

The New England Patriots are 18-0, but they still must win the Super Bowl to break the record for most wins in a season.

New York Giants versus Green Bay Packers

What a nail-biting game this was. Lawrence Tynes missed two field goals in a row in the fourth quarter for the Giants, but with the score 20 to 20, Tynes had one last opportunity. He completed the last kick of 47 yards in overtime and gave the Giants the NFC Championship title with a victory of 23 to 20.

This game started close and ended close. Both teams stayed neck and neck so to speak. The Giants made the first score with a field goal. Then in the second quarter the Packers made a touchdown to end the second with a score of 6 (NY) to 10 (GB). In the third quarter, the Giants made two touchdowns while the Packers managed a field goal. The Packers tried to come back in the fourth but a field goal tied the two at 20 to 20. The Packers won the coin toss, but an interception gave the ball back to the Giants. The Giants worked the ball down the field to the 47 where Tynes made the field goal to win the game.

For the Giants, Eli Manning made 21 of 40 attempts with no interceptions. Favre on the other hand made 19 of 35 attempts with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
