New York Islanders Hockey Hall of Famers

During the course of their history The New York Islanders have had many great players. Six of those players would eventually be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Here is s look at those players and the years they spent with the Islanders.

Mike Bossy (1977-1987) Mike Bossy played his entire ten year career for the New York Islanders. He is the Islander all -time leader in goals scored with 573. He also holds the franchise single season record for most goals in a season with 69 in the 1978-1979 seasons. Bossy scored fifty or more goals in 9 of his 10 seasons and scored 60 or more in five different seasons. He led the league in goals scored in 1979 and 1984. Mike Bossy also ranks third in team history with 553 assists. Mike Bossy won the Calder Trophy as the league's Rookie of the Year in 1977-1978. He also won the Conn Smythe Award as playoff Most Valuable Player in 1982. Mike Bossy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

Denis Potvin (1973-1988) Denis Potvin played his entire 15 year career with the New York Islanders. Denis Potvin became the first defenseman in NHL history to score 1000 points. He would finish his career with 1052 points, third most in franchise history. He won the Calder Trophy as the leagues Rookie of the Year in 1974. He also won the Norris Trophy as the leagues top defenseman three times, 1976, 1978, and 1979. Denis Potvin retired with 310 goals. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

Billy Smith (1972-1989) Billy Smith played 17 seasons with the New York Islanders. He holds the Islanders franchise record for wins by a goalie with 304. He also recorded 22 shutouts for the Islanders, 2nd most in franchise history. In 1982 he won the Vezina Trophy as the leagues top goaltender. He won 32 games in 1982 to lead the league and also set the Islanders franchise record for most wins in a season. In 1983 he won the Conn Smythe Award as the playoff Most Valuable Player in leading the Islanders to their fourth straight Stanley Cup Championship. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bryan Trottier (1975-1990). Bryan Trottier played fifteen seasons with the New York Islanders. He is the Islanders all-time leader in games played with 1123 and assists with 853. His 1353 total points is also number one in franchise history. Trottier scored 500 goals for the Islanders, second most in franchise history. He won the Calder Trophy as the leagues Rookie of the Year in 1975. In 1979 he won the Hart Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player when he lead the league in assists with 87 and total points with 134. His 87 assists in 1979 is also the franchises single season record for most in a season. Bryan Trottier also won the Conn Smythe Award as playoff MVP in 1980 when the Islanders won their first of four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships. Trottier was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.

Clark Gillies (1974-1986) Clark Gillies played 12 seasons with the New York Islanders. Clark Gilles scored 304 goals for the Islanders and registered 359 assists, both good for fourth all-time in franchise history. He scored 30 or more goals in a season six different times for the Islanders. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.

Pat Lafontaine (1983-1991) LaFontaine spent the first 8 seasons of his career with the Islanders. He Scored 287 goals for the Islanders, 5th most in franchise history, He scored 40 or more goals in four seasons with the Islanders including a career best 54 in 1990. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
