New York: Looking for Love or Fame?

Ain HD
After Flava Flav, the hype man from legendary Hip-Hop group Public Enemy, dumped his beloved New York for the second time, VH1 producers had an idea. "I Love New York," a reality dating series based on New York's desire to find her soul mate and a taste of celebrity, now runs as a spin off of "Flavor of Love."

Watching New York, aka Tiffany, is analogous to watching a car wreck. Egos are being crushed, pride is being demolished and hearts are seemingly being broken. But people may find it difficult to peel their eyes away. Tiffany curses excessively, wears far too much hair weave, and her mother is completely manic. Nonetheless, the audience is captivated by their antics. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell at this point if Ms. Tiffany is actually seeking the love of her life, or is satisfied with being loved and hated by the millions of viewers tuning in every Monday.

Tiffany's the archetypical bad girl. She hails from the big apple and has an attitude that even New Yorkers wouldn't be boastful about. She entered our hearts during the first season of "Flavor of Love," where she switched her way into Flava Flav's heart, only to have her dreams of wearing his oversized clock crushed when he chose to "roll with Hoops" on the season finale. It wasn't a surprise when she reentered Flav's mansion for season two. It was even less of a surprise when she was booted for Deleeshis, on the last episode, for the second time.

This time around, New York is getting revenge on the male species by having them jump through hoops to be the victor of her affection. The men face challenges like charting their net worth, building doghouses for her beloved pooch, and beauty pageants to prove that they're deserving of Tiffany's time and attention. The show boasts characters like "Chance," a rapper with a smart mouth, who has both feet on Tiffany's mother's bad side. Then there's "Boston," a Jewish boy with a quick tongue. Among them lie many other men with unique personalities serving to boost VH1 ratings.

No one knows who's going to be the last man standing. Trying to picture who'll be walking hand-in-hand with New York towards a falling sun, is like trying to predict her next hairstyle, or the cause of her mother's next ourburst. The concept of Tiffany finding love may sound romantic. It's great to see that after breaking down after two consecutive heartbreaks, she still has the strength to carry on and seek what she thinks she deserves. As long as she keeps kicking the men when they're already down, and dishing lines like "you're just not good enough for me," she'll be searching for love for some time. And we'll be on the other side of the screen to enjoy every crushing moment.
