1969. The New York Mets surprise the Baseball world when they win the 1969 National League Eastern Division title to advance to the postseason in just their 8th season. The Mets would face the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. They would sweep the Braves in three games to win their first National League Pennant and advance to the their first World Series.
The Mets would face the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series. The Orioles would win the first game of the series by a score of 4 to 1. The Mets would win the next four games in a row to win the series in five games. The Mets win their first World Series title in franchise history.
1973. The Mets return to the postseason in 1973 when they once again win the National League Eastern Division. The Mets would play the Cincinnati Reds in the League Championship Series. The Mets and Reds split the first four games of the series In the decisive games five the Mets win 7 to 2 to win their second National League Pennant.
The Mets advance to the World Series against the defending World Champion, Oakland A's. The Mets would take a three games to two series lead but the A's would win the next two games to take the series in seven games.
1986. The Mets return to the postseason for the first time in 12 seasons when they win the National League's Eastern Division with a league best 108 wins. The Mets face the Houston Astros in the National League Championship Series. The two teams split the first two games in Houston before the Mets take two of three in New York to take a 3 games to 2 series lead. In game six, the Mets are trailing 3-0 in the ninth inning but rally to tie the score. The Mets would go on to win the game in 16 innings to win the series and the Pennant.
The Mets meet the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. The Red Sox would win the first two games in New York while the Mets would win the first two games in Boston to tie the series. The Red Sox win games five to take a three to two lead. In game six the Mets are on the verge of defeat when the Red Sox take a two run lead in the 10th inning. But the Mets rally with two outs in the bottom of the inning to score three runs to win the game and force a game seven. In game seven the Red Sox take a quick three run lead but the Mets comeback to win the game by a score of 8 to 5 to win their second World Series Title.
1988. The Mets win their second division title in three seasons to advance to the postseason. They would play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the playoffs. The Dodgers would win the series in seven games.
1999. The Mets return to the postseason in 1999 as the National League Wild Card Winner. In the Divisional playoff round the Mets face the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets win the best of five series, three games to one. Todd Pratt wins the series for the Mets in game four with a walk off home run.
The Mets advance to the National League Championship Series against their division rival the Atlanta Braves. The Braves win the first three games of the series. The Mets would then take the next two games, winning game five in 15 innings. In game six the Mets battle back from a five nothing deficit, but would lose the game 10 to 9 in 11 linings. The Braves win the series four games to two.
2000. The Mets qualify for the playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time in franchise history. Once again they win the National League Wild Card. The Mets would face the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the playoffs. The Mets would lose the first game of the series but then win the next three to take the series in four games. Bobby Jones pitched a complete game one-hitter in the clinching game.
The Mets advance to the National League Championship Series for the second consecutive season. This time they would face the St Louis Cardinals. The Mets win the first two games in St Louis. The Cardinals would win game three in New York, but the Mets would bounce back to win the next two games to win the series and the National League Pennant.
The Mets advance to their fourth World Series in franchise history. This time the Mets face their cross town rivals the New York Yankees. The Yankees win the first two games in Yankee Stadium. The Mets win game three, but would lose the next two games. The Yankees win the series four games to one.
2006. The Mets return to the postseason for the first time since 2000 when they win the National League Eastern Division. The Mets would face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round of the playoffs. The Mets would sweep the series in three games to advance to the National League Championship Series against the St Louis Cardinals. The two teams would split the first two games in New York. The Cardinals win two of the next three in St Louis to take a 3 games to 2 series lead. The Mets return to New York and win game six to force a game seven. The Mets lose games seven by a score of 3 to 1 and lose the series.
