For what they charge, the sandwiches are pretty lame. It's all basically stuff like you'd make at home using cheap ingredients that you picked up at Safeway or CostCo, only they charge you a nice premium for slapping the sandwich together for you. Most sandwiches are in the $5 to $6 range, and choices available are standard deli fare. They have shredded pesto chicken, the BLT, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad, teriyaki chicken breast, turkey with cranberry, turkey or tuna and jack with bacon, pastrami with turkey and swiss, and something called The Gator which appears to be a bunch of meats thrown together like the Subway Feast (and is the priciest thing on the menu.) There's about ten different vegetarian sandwiches available as well, but they are all simple combinations like avocado with cheese or tofu. Sides are basically limited to some generic soups that taste like Campbell's out of a can, and bags of potato chips.
The sandwiches aren't truly bad, but it just galls me that they aren't any better than something you could put together yourself and tote with you in a bag for at least 1/3 less of what they are charging here. I don't mind a place serving a generic cheap sandwich for convenience, but the prices are way too high for the relatively low quality of the ingredients. Thus, with New York Minute scratched off the list, I have absolutely no reason left now to ever venture down into the noisy Student Center basement, unless I want to experience the pleasurable atmosphere of some kid going nuts on the Drum Mania machine in my ear while I dine. Well, I might play a game of billiards down there during the quieter hours, but as far as food runs go, forget it. If you really want a sammie while on the SFSU campus, head over to Stonestown to the Nordstrom's Cafe for something decent with soup at about the same price, or at the very least hit the campus Subway and at least get a value price with your generic, bland ingredients.
