New York State Wine and Winery Guide

New York state boasts over 212 wineries. Few people realize that it is the third largest wine production state. The state can actually trace its wine production back to the 1600's. It boasts the longest producing winery in the United States known has Brotherhood Winery in the Hudson Valley. They have been producing wine continuously since 1839.

Here is a guide to five wineries in the state and a little bit about the various wines they produce.

1) Brotherhood Winery located at 100 Brotherhood Plaza Drive, Washingtonville, NY 10992

This is a must visit winery for anyone who enjoys history. It is the longest producing winery in the United States. It can trace its history all the way back to 1839. Their cellars are open for touring and they offer tastings. You can also picnic on their lovely grounds. Normally they offer live music for all to enjoy. Once a year they even let the public join in a wine stomping event like the days of old. The winery tour is absolutely fabulous. It is history filled and very informative for everyone.

The Brotherhood Winery has been producing wine for so long that they offer superb products that are award winning. Any wine that you purchase from them will end up being quite enjoyable. Their prices are very reasonable and you can purchase all wines on line if your state allows wine shipments.

One of their truly wonderful wines is their Riesling. It is full flavored, wonderfully balanced, and the finish is absolutely perfect. It retails for only $9.99 per bottle.

2) Applewood Winery located at 82 Four Corners Road, Warwick NY 10990

This winery is located on a historic farm and has been in business since 1993. It is a lovely historic setting that welcomes visitors. They also host weddings and other functions. The ground are filled with flowers and picnic tables. They offer tastings of their superb wines. There is a cafe to enjoy on the premises and they normally offer live music on the weekends. Its a very nice winery to plan and afternoon trip around.

Their wines are quite good. They have them available for purchase on line if you are interested. One of their very nice wines is their Seyval Chardonnay Reserve which retails for only $15.50 per bottle. Its nice and crisp.
Another excellent wine choice is their Merlot which retails for $18.50 per bottle. The Merlot is everything that you would expect in a superb wine and it has such a reasonable price tag that you cannot go wrong ordering this wonderful wine.

3) Whitecliff Vineyards and Winery located at 331 McKinstry Rd., Gardiner, NY, 12525

This lovely winery is owned and operated by a husband and wife team. They planted their vineyards in 1979 and soon they began producing small amounts of quality wine which quickly built. Today they are well known for superb wine production.

They welcome visitors with open arms. They have a tasting room and the grounds are lovely.

One of their superb wines is their Hudson Valley Estate Port which retails for $35.00 per bottle. This is a very nice port and I would highly recommend that you try it.

4) Tickle Hill Winery located at 3839 Ball Diamond Road, Hector, NY 14841

This is a small family owned and operated winery that truly loves what they do. They welcome visitors with friendliness and open arms. They have a wine tasting room and gift store on location plus sales of their wines. You can also order their wines on line.

One of their delightful wines is Tickle My Fancy which retails for $9.99 per bottle. Its a lovely blush with a nice fruity flavor.

5) Honeymoon Trail Winery located at 4120 Ridge Road : Lockport, NY 14094

This winery is breathtaking. The tasting room is warm and luxurious. A place to relax and enjoy yourself with a touch of romance thrown in. They also have a gift store that sells cheese, chocolate, and wine.

At their truly lovely location they host weddings, showers, and any special event that you might desire.
They also have several festivals throughout the year and a lovely holiday event at the winery.

This is a very nice place to visit for an afternoon or day trip. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Their wines are excellent. They have a nice dry chardonnay that has hints of vanilla. It retails for $12.96 per bottle.
